Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Snowing? Already? Wow. Were are you located fancy chook lady?

I'm in the huon valley. Yes May is a little early for snow. Sleeping beauty has her ' winter face ' on.

This pic is from last winter, I could see her early this morning but she is under cover now . It's snowing as I post.

These were my two ( still have the caramel coloured one) they were smaller than I expec but they only lay 40-50g eggs so thinking they will seem small to a standard lorp LOL
Also correct me if I'm wrong But don't Australia have tailed arau's due to the fatality rate of rumpless arau's . Positive I read somewhere 3/5 or 4/5 die due to tailless gene
Mine have occasionaly thrown tailless birds. It is the ear tuft gene that is 50% (?) lethal.
Those black birds in your photo are Araucana cross- not pure. The lavender ones look OK.

I had to work on site for Mon, Tues and Wednesday this week as we had IT Team Workshops … sure does make me appreciate working from home! Working on site I lose an hour and a half to two hours out of my day. I got home just in time to watch the girls go to bed; luckily hubby let them out for free range at 4pm. I worked out that over the past three days I have probably spent a total of 2 hours with the gals and my chookie chat was nonexistent! Ah, the horror!! lol

Anyways, back to working from home base now and time to catch up.

Kooka sadly I was unable to open the link to the “deaf fella and the smart cat”.

Sam I love the salt and pepper shakers!

Chooks01 I much prefer your new ‘incubator’ to the electronic model; she is a cutie!

Cwrite and K Spot good to hear that you came through the weather unscathed.

Sidhe13 I am sorry to hear about your little chick. Sorry if I missed an update but how is (s)he doing?

Fancy that was an ominous looking weather prediction; glad to hear it has eased. Bad goats!

appps how is Carl doing?

No news of note from here; looking forward to actually spending some time with the gals before they go to bed tonight! Loving the shining sun and lack of rain :)

yes! Thats what i was saying. The tuft gene is 50% lethal and im not sure the reason behind doing away with the rumpless gene. Our araucanas look more like ameracans than american araucanas. With a small crest and/or beard.
