Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hey tandykins Pipper is a cutie! Like Fancy I am not familiar with the breeds but for what it is worth, put me down as a vote for pullet.

Thanks cwrite it is not just you and Dusty is a bantam Langshan. I have no idea if she is good quality for that breed, don’t really care either

I love her! She has the feathered outer toe which the breed has and also the breed trait of beautiful big brown eyes which melt hearts on sight

Your gals are beautiful! I love the Snowy and Tiger shot.

I was looking at the pictures of my LuLu today, trying to work out why she looked ‘funny’ .. she has no tail!

Lol

A couple of days ago she still had a few tail feathers hanging in there but they are gone!

Hi guys! It's not finished but I moved my chooks into the old tankstand coop , it was just a matter of moving a panal of fence and their feeder, they took right to it! My brother is off work for a bit (just finished his building apprenticeship and his boss has no work for him) so his next job is to actually secure the tin move the table with fish tank ( way too heavy for me alone) and redirect the rain water pipe so it doesn't flood under there now there's no tank. Then I'll just have to get some aviary mesh (hardware cloth) for the open ends. Oh and nest boxes, but since they aren't laying eggs there's no rush.

The little door you can see behind the fishtank opens into my outdoor area which is awesome for checking on them at night, I can also see in that open space from my laundry window at the moment but I'll get my brother to close that in I think

I think the previous owners had once used this space as a green/shadehouse, there's heaps of rock in the corners

Temporary roosting situation, plenty for my 5 girls but I want to get some branches from the Norfolk pine in the backyard as they would be perfect

And ofcourse my girls, left to right, Hedwig, Fleur, Ginny and at the back is Hermione and Cho. No eggs, I think I'll be waiting till spring now, which will make cho and Ginny a year old... Ah well, I love them all the same

And just for photos sake the kitties now one week old

Mother's Day classic markets in the morning so I should go to bed...

Tandykins, Piper has gorgeous coloured feathers! It will be interesting to see what colour her eggs are. Teila, love the pics of your ladies. Dusty looks very spiffy - with feathers. Is it just me or does she look a little like a bantam croad with feathering down the outside of her legs? I've also been taking pics today, fair warning. I gave Pearl a trim around her eyes and she's like a new chicken - that can actually see. Pearl is in front - the Isabel ara. Her hatch mate is the grey chook (Sprinkles) next to her. Stampy, the ISA brown is very docile so Pearl hangs around her & she's in the background of nearly every pic I took of Pearl today. OMG - eyes! She's been looking all over the place as if she can hardly believe what she's seeing. It's tempting to take a bit more off now. I noticed that Snowy was missing from the Greek yoghurt group pic - hmmm. Back on the nest. I think this is broody day one. I took the eggs and after her snack she went back to the nest and screamed for five minutes about her eggs being gone. She keeps having outbursts every now and again. I guess the whole neighbourhood knows how mean I am now. Snowy and Tiger. I think she felt a bit vulnerable drinking with him so close - a couple a squawks and he cleared right off. You can see a water line on our garden edge from Friday.
Is snowy a leghorn?

Is snowy a leghorn?
She's called a Heritage Long Lay from Heritage Hatching & Hens, but I think she's a leghorn crossed with some other Mediterranean breed, maybe ancona. I have two of them, the other, Hedwig, has a rose comb so not sure where that comes from. They are the only two of my hens that have gone broody, although Hedwig has only been broody once and she didn't get any eggs because Snowy had heaps and we only have so much space. Snowy is a fantastic mum - we had no losses of the 11/12 chicks that hatched, just mostly boys sadly.

she just remind me of my vilma she's a pure breed leghorn a bit flighty and can hardly catch her but she simply can't resist those mealworms lol she even asks for one by squaking heaps loud until she gets one.

No matter what her breed, she is gorgeous, bright eyed and bushy tailed. :)
