Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

They are so cute but grow so quick at that age

At this point I'm telling them to grow faster! So I can get a closer look at those feathers dangit!

And I totally agree, a few days ago I swear they were the size of kiwi fruits. Now they're average-sized potatoes.

Well I've been out and checked in with all the critters, the chooks are happy to see me. Might be my imagination, but they seem overly hungry. Little George is limping so I can only guess that him and dad might have been fighting. Jap pumpkins are only 90c a kilo so I bought 4 and am heading out with the axe to start 'smashing pumpkins ' before the rain sets in. :)

Excitement over load this morning. I got a marans egg and a quail egg.:celebrate Maybe they heard me when I said i'd have to go buy eggs this weekend if they didn't get their acts together or maybe they are having a go and that might be it... Time will tell. :lau

yay!!! I got 3!! 2 days after anti lousing and worming. Feels so wrong to throw them away...

I just got a pullet egg, you are right it feels wrong to throw it out when I've been waiting so long :(
Can I give it to the dog? I give her a raw egg every other night anyway so if I could give her those I'd feel less wasteful

Only if all the chemical you used on the chooks are safe for use on dogs

I flew back in from Sydney yesterday . Nice to catch up with family , hopefully it will be under better circumstances next time. It was Too late to feed the chooks and they were ravenous this AM. I was only gone 3 days and you guys had racked up 65 posts, so I'll catch up today. The sun is shining and all is well at inlet farm. Big comp this weekend and the farrier has a full day booked in here. Thanks Sam x

Aww poor little G. Hope he recovers quickly and glad all is ok.

Still hanging in there. I've finally decided to 100% ignore the vet advice (was allowing her some time on the grass in the afternoons as they said that's what she should be eating and I thought the exercise probably assists the movement of food through her system). The more grass she got though the fuller her crop was in the morning. I was also thinking she isn't going to recover from this, she might as well be happy :-(

Anyhow, I've decided to give it one last try with 100% soft food only, so she was locked up from dawn to dusk yesterday and this morning the crop was only about half as full as it has been and she ate as soon as I gave her her food this morning where yesterday she ignored it totally. Going to give it 3 days and reassess. Hopefully the combination of soft foods and time having allowed her crop to start working a bit again will be the trick.

She is sharing confinement with winry till lunchtime each day. She is our slight cross beak and have noticed she also has diareah all the time and is skinny even for her at the moment so she is enjoying sharing carls get well food and is now standing at the bunny cage waiting to get put in each morning :). Think her molt was particularly hard on her since she doesn't eat as well to start with so fattening her up.

That is so sweet how Winfrey lines up for her confinement. And good news about Carl. Must be something about grass that is a problem only for her. I have a cat that I took to the vet recently thinking it had mange - nope - just a cat with a few fleas that he is allergic to. Never heard of a cat being allergic to fleas before. It turns out that Tiger is allergic to flea medication to.

My little flock don't seem unduly worried by their doggie visitor. They were a bit quieter the next morning, but by the end of the day all was back to normal and there has been no gap in laying. I'm getting about 3 eggs a day now. It will be interesting to see how my utility layers fare in the long run out of a commercial environment. Hopefully well. Snowy has also given up on going broody at the moment, perhaps because it's a bit chilly for that.
