Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I must be the only one that did not know that. What do they treat it with now Ash?

It's a common misconception that arsenic isn't used, but as recent as 2013 the EPA still list it as registered for use in NSW.
The five treatments that are used as follows :
- CCA copper chrome arsenate
-ammoniacal copper quaternary and copper azole
-boron
-creosote
-pyrethroid and metal based light organic -solvent preservatives ( LOSP'S )

If the timber is green in colour then it contains copper.

always good to see other people's ideas !
Okay, got a few pics. I think only Auzzies understand the beauty/ugliness of corrugated iron and gum tree branches

This is the far left - against the front wall. I built it as a drake run but my scovy claimed it as her private quaters.

From the outside. Thats my son, baby helper

Okay, right hand wall. A few months ago when I got more chooks I put in the highest one, thats where the Isa's like to perch. Everything else went in Monday.

Showing how the old and new perches bend over to the plank and platform. I put these in years ago when I first got chooks. They are always shunned!

Plank and platform leads over nesting area where there is a low branch to help little ones learn to jump up.

Far left, just before the drake run/scovy quaters. This dividing piece used to be over iin the other corner and there was a nesting area under where the gum tree perches are now. The australorp was hell bent on roosting on its edge and the nesting area went to hell with poop, so I moved it over and put up new perchings.

Back to the start! The little lorps insist on perching on THIS divider, and Gertrude, if she doesnt nest, sits on the white bucket. Happily Shiela did not follow the divider to the other side and has opted for a gum tree perch. The small corridor (that my son is standing in from the far back shot) may be converted, needing only roof and door to make it secure before I add perches and nesting areas.

Just a few...

Henny and Gertrude

Baby lorp

More baby lorps!

Henny again. My ever friendly Hennible Pennible. When I woke up this morning, this chook was on top of me. I felt someone crawling on me and groaned. Cat? Kid? Im trying to sleep in! Holy crapp, Its Got Claws! Open eyes! Its...A ...Chook? Henny! How did you get in! Im still not sure, how she got in....Maybe the cat door? I get up at 6am to let them out, feed everyone, then cuddle up with the kids if they arent up yet.

Thats hilarious! Chook using the cat door and jumping in bed with u haha gorgeous! Great pics. So thought Id just check.. Miss vonte has only come out once today - while i was out obviously ate and drank which was good, hope she comes out more often over the hot weekend to drink, surely she will. Anyway her poo looked normal in every way except that it was one huge clump! I would assume thats because shes only getting up to go to the toilet once and that itd be normal while broody but thought id just check, its as big as dog poo! Lol. Just looking for confirmation that thats normal? Shes doing so well :) had more escaping chickens this morning, seems theyve now eaten all the exciting stuff in their yard over the last 2 years so theyre wanting more.. so typical of my chooks, could never keep them in a small area. Everyone tells me theyre so spoilt always having so much space but they never seem to think so! My herbs, fruit and veggies are already going nuts this spring, theyre loving it! :)

Yes all normal. There is nothing quite like a broody poop lol

Hadn't thought about the heat with the broody, supposed to get low 30's here over the weekend.

Thanks :) figured so just had to check. Took my kids out for a 2 hr friends birthday and was pretty anxious the whole time to get back to my chooks! Felt like the crazy chicken lady lol. All protective grandmothering now :p

Yeah well luckily we'll be home most of the weekend so should be able to keep a good eye on her. Good thing i guess (dont know whether shell realise it) is that they wont get cold as quickly if she keeps getting off to drink. Think ill do the ol ice cubes in their water trick this weekend

The breeder up the road from us has this happen to her often, usually roosters being dumped on her property. She recently put a warning on her face book page, telling the dumpers that she had video surveillance cameras on her property and she will report them to the police and RSPCA with her video evidence. Don't know how that's working for her, but it's an idea. Maybe signs saying property under video surveillance would be a deterant to would be offenders.

I'll have a look into surveillance. Our gates are padlocked all the time as we have had 3 attempted break-inns over the last two school terms - related to the new development I think.
Anyway, they were quite friendly chooks & should be nicely settled into their new home now

Very cute. I love the racing stripes on the quails.
My daughter spotted a snake coming from the run today. Apparently it had a lump about the size of an egg. None of the flock seemed bothered and Hagrid was still plastered to the eggs so I'm not sure, but will be feeding with caution for a while.

Finally my never ending hatch has finished with 4 Belgians from my own iddy biddy belg and a couple of marans and a some quails :) Time to clean the bator ready for when the new eggs arrive.
