Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Yep, for sure satay .... I do not tolerate the heat well and definitely prefer winter. The last few days have left me feeling a little snippy, drained and generally unwell.

On the other hand, the girls appear to be coping with it pretty well.

Maybe I need to take a sicky today and join them in the shade under the tree

Best not to feed her for awhile , just give the crop a chance to empty first. Take note of her water consumption, if it is truly impacted and not just slow, she will drink excessive amounts in an attempt to wash it down.

Good point. She's seperated from the other feed sources now at least so can't top it up with pellets. I'll grab the vitamins you add to the water so she is getting some of those at least.

Maybe a good idea. :D I am amazed at how well thor does in the heat. Being an akita x bull mastiff he has the thickest coat but the heat never seems to bother him nor the cold either. I should have grabbed my camera yesterday afternoon. Teila the frizzle was none to impressed with the heat and came to the front door to let me know all puffed up (feathers). So i grabbed her and ran her under cold water She gave me the most evil stink eye you have ever seen like really i said i was hot not that i wanted a dunking. She ran off down the stairs going off as if to say don't go up there and tell the crazy lady you are hot. She'll dunk you and now look at my poor feathers. :D. . :lau Guess i gave her the right name after all (not enjoying the heat). :lau

Pellets aren't usually the culprit, at least once they are wet they turn into a mash. Sunflower seeds , bedding / hay and grass clippings are something to watch .

Anyone near Sydney interested in some roosters? I hatched some eggs and have one Barnevelder and one red Ancona that turned out to be roos. They are both almost 9 weeks.

Almost forgot, they are free, just want someone that wants them as I can't keep roos my a

Sorry hodor no roosters allowed here and not near Sydney .. I hope you are able to find somewhere for them though.

Last hen i had with impacted crop was simply resolved by slowly massaging it for about 30 minutes, next morning she was ok,

I hope that is the case, unfortunatly we nearly lost her last year to the same thing, even after surgery to clear the crop it still didn't empty very well and was a good couple of months before she put the weight back on and it was emptying as it should. I'm just praying it's an easier fix this time.

I just meant so she can't eat anything while its emptying. I let them in to some grass the other day for a change but it wasn't long or anything. It's the only thing I can think of though as they are pretty much locked up in their run now days with the Hawks. I have just been up to check on her and found a plastic ziplock lunch bag in their run. Half of it was gone but I'm not sure if it's been eaten or just degraded in sunlight. Can't imagine how it got in there, maybe from the walkway behind them but I'd have thought the netting would have stopped that.

Mind you she does love the sunflower seeds. I'm really thinking that handful of scratch mix I throw each morning may be more trouble than it's worth. Oh and yeah she was drinking when I checked again.
