Higgins Storm Chasing has great information on this Dangerous Heat Stress Alert SEQLD & most of QLD

PS. This is for people, not chickens

because I know that while we are super vigilant in making sure our chickens are as cool as possible, we may forget about ourselves:

That's great info Teila. I was wondering about posting something like that after Satay mentioned her temps. I hope you both & anyone else experiencing these hellish conditions without aircon stay safe. I'd be hanging out at my local library if we didn't have aircon at home. The Redcliff one has a coffee shop too I think... or at least a balcony where you can have a cup of tea and the North Lakes one has an area with sofas where you can also have a cup of tea. They both have some undercover parking in case there is hail. I may have done this to have a change of scenery when I've been doing a lot of writing.

I had the pleasure of watching large hails stones rocochet off my neighbours fence & hit my windows yesterday just as I was supposed to be leaving for a parents information evening. I've been in one hail storm in a car here & never again!

My chooks also seem to be doing ok in the heat, thank goodness. They had frozen peas in their water & that was it.

Hey there cwrite, not doing too badly at the moment it was 36 about half an hour ago but I am sure satay is way higher!

Sadly, no going anywhere for me, I have to work but I do have the desk fan on me and drinking lots of water.

The Property Manager has just left and mentioned how warm it was inside so I did jokingly suggest if the owner wanted to write off some money for tax purposes on the house, air conditioning or a plunge pool would be welcome

She spent more time with the chickens than she did looking at the house; she loved them .. she also said how lovely the garden looked and I replied that the chickens were the reason; I spend so much time out there with them, pottering in the garden

I hasn't realised you were renting. How lucky to have an understanding landlord! So many seem to have a blanket, no pets!

Not to bad today temp wise we have been hovering around 40c. Humidity has been woeful though.

Unfortunately for me to find aircon i would have to drive to Ipswich or Toowoomba. 1 hour each way in a car with no aircon is not my idea of fun :lau Hubby tells me i don't need air con in the car just wind the window down  I do tend to break air con. Every car we have had comes with air con then dies a few months later.

Hey appps yeah, a previous relationship mistake made my chances of ever owning property again very slim. Paying rent and trying to save a deposit on a low income is near on mission impossible, but c'est la vie

We have been tenants here for 6 years this year and we were actually in residence when the current owner purchased it as an investment property [we did try to buy it but no luck].

Anyways, I will stop waffling and basically say that I think that they are OK with the pets because they were here when it was purchased and we are pretty good tenants. In the time we have been here they have only had two repair calls; one for the old dead dishwasher and one for a broken screen door latch.

This was the garden when we moved in:

I'm pretty sure I'd be in a cold bath hugging a bag of ice without aircon. It's nearly over & hopefully the rest of the week will be a bit cooler.

Teila. I've also thought that you are lucky to have chickens while renting, especially after the way mine have moonscaped the garden. Your flock seems to be much better behaved. Hopefully you get fans at least after this!
