Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I'll discuss this with my vet, if it could be a possible cause of her getting sick. It could be something else entirely, but yes, it might be worth eliminating/confirming it as a cause. I'm not getting anymore chickens for now, the only time I'd consider adding now would be as age claims them in the years ahead. I'd never consider euthanasia if that is the case, as they are beloved pets. If the result is a closed flock, then that's ok. Once they'd passed on, I'd move and start again. But for the purposes of adding to the flock in time due to the effects of age, then it might do well to have Annabelle tested. Whatever she caught, I'm certain it was passed from those **** skyrats hanging around, despite my efforts to remove them.

That's good to hear, there are many unscrupulous people out there passing birds on with disease and its heart breaking to read of the innocent persons entire flock being infected as a result. MG is not the end of the world. But as with many upper respiratory diseases it can rear its ugly head whenever the birds are under stress. It can also be transmitted by rats and mosquitos . Stock up on antibiotics so that you are prepared for any relapses. :)

OH poor Carl, let's hope that the vet can sort her out.

She is going to operate this afternoon so all fingers crossed. She said its just such a solid mass she doesnt see any chance of it moving on its own, she isnt pooping except a watery discharge so its pretty much this or she dies I think. On a positive she is in better condition than last time, then she was down to 1.6kg but she weighted in and 2.2kg today so hopefully it all helps her pull through.

Thinking of you and Carl!

Well she made it through the surgery. She's pretty tired but guess that's to be expected.

They pulled a heap of grass out, it was never going to move on its own.

The girl put her hand in the photo to give a better idea of how much was crammed in there.

You can only imagine how unwell she was feeling. The bacteria count would be fairly high . What was the smell like, just wandering if it had developed into a full blown ' sour crop '.
Certainly better out than in .

Both my new chooks have that araucana "hawk-like" faces, Grace (black one) has those little sticky out face whiskers, but Marcy doesn't. They both only have tiny little combs. I'm also interested to see how much "red stuff" they grow. Not much, I expect.

I think I can safely say that your new araucana X's will have all the 'red stuff' .... as they should. Thing is, you won't be able to see it, under all that facial feathering. Mindy Araucana has also got the little feather tufts that stand out from the sides of her face - which serves to cover even more of her facial features. Suffice to say she is a head of feathers, with a hint of eyes since I clipped around them (

) and a tiny little red rose comb stuck in the middle above her beak. That's about it.

They are really gorgeous though.

Cheers .........

Even the dangly bits?

I found another egg in the bushes (other side of the "garden"/wilderness). It could have been there since the big girls first moved in, because there was another one nearby "back then". How did I find the egg, I hear nobody ask? My little girls went on a "nature hike" in the bushes.
