When I was young ( along time ago apparently) the butcher my dutch grandparents went to sold horse meat. I know a long while ago it wasn't allowed anymore. But I do wonder it there are people who are not opposed to butchering the own meat that might not find horse offensive. Then I found this when curiosity got the better of me.
From a horse rescue site.
"One butcher in WA was granted a special license in July 2010 to sell horse meat for human consumption within Australia by the Western Australian state Minister for Agriculture and Food, Terry Redman of the National Party. The butcher has stated in the media that he slaughters 20 horses a year, and is currently selling the meat to other states and territories of Australia."
I suppose others think its weird that we eat croc, emu, kangaroo and snake.
The eggs may get bigger over the first 6 months of laying. Occasionally a hen start laying at final size, but they usually work up to it.

Thanks, I was surprised how little the eggs are. The little girls are quite big now, Marcy is big like a "proper chicken", Grace is a bit smaller, but she's supposed to be crossed with an Australorp, so she may get bigger... The new eggs are not that much bigger than the tiny girl egg that the new girls/one of the new girls has been laying. I thought they'd be the same size as my isa browns (they aren't what I think of as "big chooks", the australorps I used to have were bigger/heavier than my isa browns). The eggs may get bigger over the first 6 months of laying.
