Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thanks @Chook Newby
The chicks were actually an Easter gift for my young daughters (3 & 4 yrs old) so we had to get babies.

Never in a million years did I ever think I would like chickens but they have grown on me. I've even had a few sleepless nights worrying about our special little Carla. Hahaha!! I have already found this site to be so helpful!!!

Isn't it funny! I was the same...never ever thought I'd ever have chickens but now I have them I am just chuffed! They are the funniest things ever. My parents visited over easter and the three of us just sat outside during the days and watched them roam and play in the backyard. They had us in hysterics!

I got them on a Saturday afternoon and I didnt sleep a wink that night! I was so worried about them all alone in thier coop lol. I was up at the crack of dawn the next morning (very unlike me on a Sunday morning) to check on them. Then I had to go to work on the Monday. That was a terrible day! I couldn't concentrate on my work ALL day for the worry. I rang my son as soon as his bus dropped him home from school and made him go out and check on them

So I understand what you are going through.

Yes the people on here are lovely and I love seeing photos of everyone's chooks and coops.

Good luck with little Carla. And enjoy seeing the little poppets grow and develop their personalities... it's so much fun

Aww it's always nice to see different animals getting along. My cat has an understanding with the girls, give each other enough space and she won't get chased lol.

Welcome mooandmcgee! I'm also a Queenslander, from Brissy. Your trio are beautiful! There's so much to look forward to as they grow :)

Hi Fizzybelle, yes it was a big relief when all my animals started to respect each other. It took 2 weeks of persistant training with the dogs every night after work (in almost 40 degree heat) for the dogs to learn that the chickens are their friends not their food. But we got there and everyone is happy now! It was a very stressful 2 weeks for me though :(

My cats see the chooks as neither, they usually run away if the chooks come near them. It's funny when a 2 or 3 day old chick walks up to my big boy cat and he turns and bolts over the fence like its going to eat him.

The cats will happily give any small birds or rodents the kill to the chooks instead of bringing them in to us now, so I guess the cats think that is humans are the chooks pets.

That's so funny sjturner79! The cats sound a bit confused to me! Its also sound like the chicken 'rule the roost' at your place haha

One of my chooks (the naughtiest one) walk up behind my King Charles Cavalier and just pecked her in the face for no reason one day. The poor little dog had no idea what had just happened and freaked out. The chook just walk away.... cheeky little mite!

It's possible they do, we are overrun with them at the minute, some one was telling me I have nearly 50, I just know that there is to many for me to count.
