Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

@sjturner79 How did you go with "fixing" your broody chooks? And the auction, hope it was a huge success!!

Ok everyone this weekend I'm going to put my big girl pants on and put the chicks in their coop. Who knows they might totally LOVE it!!

They love being outside pecking around the yard and hubby has made a very impressive run for them so we will give it a go.

potato chip birds can only get into our run when the door is open and any birds that do that do so at their own risk .. Dusty will bash them!

Birds are quite welcome to walk around the garden and she totally ignores them but if one ventures into the run, I am not sure if it is because she is being territorial or because she knows she has it cornered, but she will go in there and bash it.

mooandmcgee I hope your littlies love their new digs .. if you get chance, I would love to see pics.

sjturner79 yep, my broodies zone out when on the nest but if not on the nest and being broken, they are not very happy and anyone within attack range is fair game, including their flock mates and humans

Some of you have seen these pics but as they are my favourite Broodzilla pics and always give me a chuckle, sharing again for those who have not ..... Hormones have some scary super powers

So, getting back to pigeons and doves and how silly they are .. am I the only one quite frequently chuckling at a chicken frantically jumping up and down at the wire, trying to get to her flock mates in the garden when there is an open door behind her that she just walked through only minutes before?

Yes, sjturner how did the auction go?

This weekend I have brahmas hatching. I always get excited for every egg. Lucky I only do a few at a time.

But also I found someone selling sicilian buttercups - he's the actual breeder and he has recreated them as the breeders in Australia have had to do. He was hoping I'd be looking at breeding. He would like to see more breeders so the breed continues. I can't wait to chat in person with him. So tomorrow I will hopefully own a couple of buttercups.

That will then be the wish list complete except for satay blue Marans.

I had a panic last night when I got home - 2 D'uccles missing. Little rats had got out and were roosted on the quail hutch. My son kept saying the chooks are over here, but I thought he meant the other pen and other chooks. It was a case of me not having my listening ears turned on. Those birds are so small.

Nothing like your Teila but the prefab coop will work for now until we work out how we want to build our own. The run isn't totally finished but sadly hubby ran out of time. Compared to our neighbours our chicks live in a castle!

They should be nice and cosy in there. :)
My advice would be to spray it thoroughly with a surface spray , inside and out before you put the chicks in.
I used an entire can on our recently finished bachelor coop.

It looks great! Hey, it took three years to get the coop the girls have now and their first coop(s) was nothing like yours .. notice I have not shared pictures of it?

Fancychooklady They actually sell that coop as suitable for FIVE chickens.

I think our three will max it out for sure.

Today the girls and I will deck it out with bedding and see what they think.

Teila The run is really just their rainy day & night quarters as we will let them free range most of the time. I think it's amazing what hubby is capable of when he's feeling guilty for almost killing Carla. LOL!!

As long as it's only sleeping quarters it is plenty big enough. Don't forget to surface spray the timber before you add the bedding. :)
