Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

2 trying to sleep in nests today, so they went back into the trolley for the night.

That's a good idea. I need to invest in a cage of sorts, next payday. Shouldn't be long now till my Pekin Esme starts laying/going broody.

MyHaven, I saw that! I was super happy to see d'uccles as the spotlight breed. Those fluffy little bearded babies are the best breed ever

Well, with Iris gone, things are quieter, not that he was noisy, he'd only started to crow, but less hen pecking. He and Annabelle were the biggest culprits. Everyone now gets on fairly well with everyone, cept Annabelle, who's still determined to be the only turd in the litter box (I still love her though).

And I've discovered what's worse than a neighbour with a yappy dog; a neighbour who thinks they can sing. My quiet yard time with the girls has been less than peaceful lately

@sjturner79 How did you go with "fixing" your broody chooks? And the auction, hope it was a huge success!!

Ok everyone this weekend I'm going to put my big girl pants on and put the chicks in their coop. Who knows they might totally LOVE it!!

They love being outside pecking around the yard and hubby has made a very impressive run for them so we will give it a go.

Auction is tommorrow, had to submit final numbers 3 days before. I just hope I manage to come home with more money and less chooks than I go with.
All but one of the Broodies are broken, and she one that's selected to go to auction anyway.

You probably thought I was all talk. I've been trying to do a diagram clear enough to show the fox proofing. The photo here doesn't quite show how it works.
The whole system is a variation on what we've probably all seen before.

If you need the info I hope you can see it clearly enough. Here's the explanation.

On the bottom of the fence at a 90degree angle on the outside of the run you lay mesh and attach to the base with gal rings, wire or what ever. It doesn't have to be buried. Rolled top weld mesh is what I saw. It has no sharp edges. About 300mm plus is enough. The fox can't dig and keeps moving along.

On the top because the chicken wire supports move the barrier flexes and the fox climbs to it, it moves, he drops down.

I hope you can understand.

My neighbours over the back play their stereo really loudly and they like "music" that I hate, that awful rap music with no melody, just doof doof and some guy talking.  urgh.

We have someone about 3 houses away that does that. Drowns out the roosters and dogs in the neighbourhood completely. The bigger part of the problem is that they like doing it mostly between 10pm and 2 am.

Do you know what?  I am the same!  I did heaps of research before I got my chickens because I wanted to be as prepared as what I could.  I even did a chicken keeping course near Canberra. People think I am so over the top!  But my chickens are happy and healthy so I must be doing something right!  Keep up the good work :clap

OMG a course?! Seriously I need to see what I can find up here. Hahaha!! My non chicken friends all think I am NUTS! I have two breeders who answer all my questions via email, my vet emails me all the time to see how we are going and I have this forum. But seriously SO much time has already gone into these three little chicks I feel like we should move from the beach to a farm.
