The chicks have found their favourite spot in the garden already. They spent all day yesterday around the bamboo (the bamboo leaves make perfect mulch). The chicks scratched and pecked all day long. It's so cute watching them become more adventurous and start to check everything out.

Mine love our bamboo too especially the bantams though some do try to roost in it at night.

mooandmcgee Blondie is a Pekin [or Bantam Cochin depending on where you hail from and to whom you are talking

]. She is not big and pretty much the same size as the rest of the bantam flock. When she is not broody, she is a sweetheart and does love to pose for the camera.

Ah yes, the joys of neighbours I sometimes wonder why I worry about KiKi’s vocalisations when the neighbour across the road has 4 dogs now I think; one little terrier type that appears to not get along with the bigger dogs and lives permanently on the upstairs balcony and barks at anything and everything. There are always people coming and going and lots of moving in and out of furniture and I wonder if they are not running a half way house of some description. The younger inhabitants love the doof, doof, doof music loud. Then you have the guy down the road who drag races or something similar and constantly working on and/or revving engines and then test driving them up and down the street. Plus, the not so happily married couple next door who required a phone call to the Police and attendance of an Ambulance during one of their still ongoing domestic disputes.

I wonder if on some blog or forum somewhere one or all of them are complaining about a noisy chicken in the neighbourhood lol

I think all of Teila's ladies are petite little things, it's just their personalities that are HUGE.

Yep, with my banties I've noticed the smaller the size, the bigger the personality.

Went ok at the auction. 1 buyer disappeared so I took 2 home. Sold 30 worth but brought a hen for 20 so no profit.

It's all happening at my place.

The cats been back to the vet. It has an abscess where it was attacked.

The brahmas that I expected to hatch late tomorrow started pipping yesterday. The first hatched last night. Photos when they've fluffed up.

The Sicilian buttercups have arrived. I just love them already. Photos to follow later.

And one of the d'uccles has layed its first egg. It's huge for the size of the bird AND it was in my new nest design to stop the crows. Here's the egg.
From top to bottom d'uccle, an Australorps egg (one of her first) and a Sussex.

I expected much smaller. Maybe she (and I'm not sure which one of two) was trying to match the size of the nest egg.
