mooandmcgee .... re the coffee plant.

Thanks for the ovation. .... I tried to reply via ovation, but my silly computer - or perhaps this site, wouldn't allow me.

So - firstly - you are welcome - and secondly, I think you are wise to try and find out exactly what it is you have in your garden ( the coffee tree ).

Most are probably not poisonous, but some are, and where there's a doubt I figure it's to best to shout ( for help ). We have some species of azalea in our garden and to my horror, I discovered they can be poisonous to dogs. So what does our Miss Ruby do ?? She picks up dead fallen azaleas, and being a Golden Retriever, carries them around in her mouth. She is no longer permitted near them.

Job well done. Your chooks look lovely. What do you have in your flock?

Thanks. It can hardly be called a flock, but I have Chile the RIR, Ebony - the Australorp in the previous picture - then I have Little Angel the light sussex and Dapple, a plymouth rock. I've owned a couple other chooks at other times - even a rooster - but it's been fairly unlucky. We couldn't keep the roo when he started crowing (because of regulations in my area) another chook got taken by a cat. My lovely little barnevelder had cancer and died before her first lay.

Sorry I got a little off track there. I hope to own a lot more chickens when I'm older and maybe live somewhere where I can have a rooster.
Here's a picture I took of Dapple earlier today.

What kinda chickens do you own? You sound like you have plenty more chooks than I do!

Hi all

Still kind of new to this chicken rearing thing- I have 2 girls: greedy guts and clever girl.

My girls have recently starting to lose feathers on their necks, just wanted to check if it is normal moulting or if it is mites/lice issue? When I first noticed this on Greedy Guts, I thought it was mites so gave her a full dusting of DE. Now I've notices Clever Girl has it too?

It is Autumn after all, so could it just be moulting? Cheers

Just waiting to hear back on the status of the coffee tree in question. I'm pretty sure it's all good but seriously would rather be safe then sorry. I do really appreciate the heads up, as I would have never have thought of it. I'll keep you posted.

I love it that you have such a mixed flock. I have a tiny flock of 3 chicks and as a new chicken owner I say that's enough. You could almost call it my great chicken experiment.

It's all happening at my place.

The cats been back to the vet. It has an abscess where it was attacked.

The brahmas that I expected to hatch late tomorrow started pipping yesterday. The first hatched last night. Photos when they've fluffed up.

The Sicilian buttercups have arrived. I just love them already. Photos to follow later.

And one of the d'uccles has layed its first egg. It's huge for the size of the bird AND it was in my new nest design to stop the crows. Here's the egg.
From top to bottom d'uccle, an Australorps egg (one of her first) and a Sussex.

I expected much smaller. Maybe she (and I'm not sure which one of two) was trying to match the size of the nest egg.

WOW it is ALL happening at your house!!! That's insane! Your poor cat, I really hope she is feeling better soon and everything heals up well.
Congratulations on the eggs!!!
