Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I use laucke mills Starter and then the grower.

The copprice ' lucky layer ' RSPCA approved pellet seems popular around here , but only for those of you with hens only. My birds are just a bit fussy and don't like big pellets. I find the copprice the next best thing to laucke micro pellet. :)
I found this pic on a forum, comparing some of the feeds available in Aus.

Again, this could all be a huge coincidence but I may have got a bad batch.
Or got the runs from a new food or had a personal sensitivity to it. There are so many possibilities. I personally don't think that it would have had anything to do with what happened with Kiki, but I've done the same just to "be sure".

Yes, it does. That horrible "oh what if it's a horrible disease or they've all been poisoned" feeling passes when the others continue on healthy and happy. The hard part with birds is that they DO just "drop dead" like that. I suppose it would be easier to deal with the death of a chookie if you've been keeping chickens for a long time, I'm not sure about that, each little girl is special, I'm not looking forward to losing any of mine when their time comes.... :( I wish I was more of a "farm person" and less of a soppy wimp. I know from being older and having had to go through it with several pets over the years, that the loss of dogs and cats has become less devastating than when my first and only cat died. It doesn't get easier, but it is less hard. (if that makes any sense).

I was coming inside yesterday and thought of Kiki and felt really sad about her sudden departure. It's funny how we can become "friends" with other chickens online that we've never met and feel sad or concerned about them, along with our own.

None of those feeds in the picture are available locally where I am (at least I've never clapped eyes on them).

I haven't seen these either.
But I will look out for meal worms my girls don't get treats like that.

Thanks for the advice on feeds.

Teila I hope your aches are better today it sounds like you have a full day ahead of you. I'm the same as you and I think most of us here,
I check fish, chickens and when Bear is laying particularly still and doesn't move when I open the door I run over to make sure he's ok, usually he's just feeling lazy and he'll lift his head as if to say "you want something".

They might not be available in Perth, but at least 7 are available here. Would also depend whether you buy from a co-op or a regular pet store. I can't see why you wouldn't have copprice products there as I know you can buy copprice horse and pony pellets there.

I go to the stock feed place, regular pet stores and another garden/pet shop that also has horse and more farm-y type stuff. All I've ever seen anywhere is their generic stuff that they rebag into smaller bags, Westons, and Watson & williams. Maybe they sell other brands in HUUUGE bags for farmers and that's why I've never seen them. The one I get is in 20kg bags. Maybe they have other stuff at country locations, but they are the only ones I've ever seen.

Sorry got another question. Does a white spot on an egg yolk always mean fertilized? Or could there be another reason? This white spot was quite noticable.

I go to the one in Martin (gosnells) they have the Red Hen Laucke Brand and some others I can't remember.
Pumpkin smash, even the cat got in on it.

They look like they are enjoying that even the cat. Do you cook it or just cut it open and let them at it. Sometimes pumpkin can be very hard.

This afternoon all that is left is skin. I cut half way through in quarters then pop it in the oven for 20-30 min whole. When you drop it on the ground it cracks open.
Crazy cat only liked the butternut.
Laucke is a bit more expensive but because it is a micro pellet there is no wastage. I find that the barastoc is too big for them and they leave it to the ducks or it gets wet and turns to slop. I pay $30 for 20kg, but on average most feeds that come into tassie are about $5-6 more expensive than on the mainland. We stock up on hygain products for the horses when we are in Victoria. :)
