Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

My white leghorn Milkshake started laying! Two small eggs and then this double decker :)

I was under the impression that white leghorns lay pure white eggs. It is not the case here. Her eggs are light brown/creamy brown. The two eggs on other side belong to my australorpes.

My new quail home. Babies moved in yesterday. They are fully feathered now.
Quails are not the smartest birds I know. They have a perfect cosy home filled with fresh hay and they spent the night in groups outside, huddled together. I even put them all in the house after dark and they all came out...

I love the faverolles! After reading about them on this forum I did some research and they seem like a perfect backyard bird.
The only thing against me is my location though, they don't like hot climate :-( They would probably suffer from heat in Brisbane summer. Anybody keeps them in Queensland?

Impressive egg. My white leghorn I had used to lay pure white eggs. Large like yours too. Every time I let her sit she hatched boys.

Love your quail pen. I gave up giving my a place to sleep in as they never used it. How many quails do you have?

Don't know about Queensland but do know of a lady who lost some in that heat we had over summer and she is in Victoria. She recommended having a misting system set up for hot days.

Got another visit from the neighbour next doors animals this morning. Not the dogs this time but 7 roosters and 1 hen. I went outside and through the trees could just make out some roosters. Thinking the wellies were out somehow I went to look. Nope it was 7 roosters and I hen from next door lol. These belong to the Malaysian owner. I have told him many times he has too many roosters that why he doesn't get many eggs but these boys seemed to be having a ball with the one hen, all just happy to hang out together. They went back under the fence after a while.
