There are 15 young quails in the new pen.
I have another, bigger pen where my original 8 quails live. I collected some eggs from them and set in the incubator, but nothing hatched. All eggs were empty. The boys are not doing their jobs! There are 6 girls and 2 boys. Now when I think about it I have not heard any quail crowing since late spring, perhaps they only mate in spring? They have no artificial light.
I will try hatching some around September when they start laying again (and mating).
The 15 young ones hatched from bought eggs.

Yes she looks fine. He has more hens but that was just a funny site this morning.
Still nothing yet but I think they are close their combs are starting to look nice and red.

Mine have been laying and are fertile still have more due to hatch on Sunday they live outside. Maybe yours have chosen to take a break for a while.

Oh, that's good. haha I bet it would have been.

They must almost me 27 weeks now? Yeah it is really noticeable, especially in single combed breeds to see when a pullet it about to lay.

Don't worry my Wyandotte must be almost 30 weeks old and doesn't even have wattles yet

Do you give them artificial light in the mornings?
That's probably the only way to bring pullets into lay this time of year.

No I don't Ash. If they are gunna lay they will otherwise I will wait it out.

Ive told it is a good Idea to get pullets just before Winter as they will lay right through because they won't moult.
