Teila you're right, poor Satay seems to cop it a bit with temps. Hope it's not too bad for you Satay!
LuckysMum Wow, that is quite a dramatic drop, I'm sure you're VERY glad for that relief. 40 degrees!

Cwrite, that's pretty much it hey, you just feel like all you're capable of is trying to get through the day without overheating. Well my girls have their fan on, it's essential in this weather too hot without it. We got aircon installed in the lounge downstairs yesterday which is great so we have another cool retreat.

I walked past the girls with some watermelon today and they all squawked at me like 'oi, you're not eating that all by yourself!' I was saving some for them, I just wanted a little first!

I put up a sprinkler system over the run a couple of years back. It doesn't actually use much water because it gives off a very fine spray but it makes a difference - not that my chooks seem to enjoy it much. Lol.

I hope you feel better soon Satay! That is an awful combination.

I recognised the berries as my grandpa had one shaped as a sphere. That would be why your girls like the berries, it's meant to make nice jam. Looks like a really nice shade tree too. We just got some more squares of Sir Walter grass, so mine are eating that as forage is limited to green stuff at the moment while my various berry bushes grow, plus we (humans and chickens) ate all the watermelon yesterday. My chickens give it rave reviews if anyone's looking to get turf btw.

cwrite, mine hate the mist too, I had the hose nozzle set to mist and left it in the tree periodically to cool down the cluster of palms they hide under. Though they prefer it to being dunked in water.

Yep, it is a beautiful tree and definitely provides a lot of shade.

LOL

I've been wondering what deity to pray to in order to make it rain. BOM is still has rain forecast, if it happens lets hope it's actually decent.

I would pray to a whole line of them if it would help

Crystal was really feeling it today and I had the bucket ready to dunk her. We had the mister hanging from the tree over their favourite spot but she was still a cause for concern. Hopefully that rain will come and at least cool things down for a while, give everyone time to recuperate a little before Part II next week

Hey friends .. once again I need your help please .. time to play 'Name That Tree'!

It is snowing thanks to this tree, lots of small white flower-bits dropping everywhere. Has small leaves, small berries and a red fruit. Could it be a crab apple? [the flower does not look right for a crab apple though] The gals eat the red fruit and are still kicking!

We used to call it Chinese apple. I think from memory the pip isn't good for you. If its is the same one we used to eat it too. I've heard the same thing good for jam.

Satay Yes I did need a jumper after the 40 degrees day, the cool days were very welcome. When I went out to water in the evening I was cold. It was a nice feeling. Unlike you we’ve managed to stay a bit cool the last few days. It’s just starting to get back into the low 30’s I can definitely cope with that. I don’t know how everyone on the east coast is coping at the moment. I have been watching the news and the heat you are having is extreme. But you don’t need me to tell you that. I hope you get a cool change soon.
Especially at night that must be the worst. I know if you can sleep it helps you face the next day. I don’t know how you manage without aircon in the car. I just bought a second hand 8 seater because in the last one the aircond stopped working. It was very old and not worth fixing.

Teila I love the picture of Australia being cooked and the one of Queensland near the sun.

Fancy I can’t believe you are asking for rain. I thought you always got plenty. I hope you get some then.

I hope the snakes are staying away from everyone too.

You get used to it not having aircon. I just drive faster ;)
