Thanks all for the great tips on pet movers. Once we know a little more about hubby’s job application we will start to get some quotes. I will definitely be referring back to your tips.

Great job on the nest box Sparky!

How'd it go Satay? What did the temp end up getting to? It was actually cooler in Brisbane today, been overcast. I hope a little of that pleasant change made it's way to you.

Well there was a change in the pecking order in my flock today. Beatrice my D'Uccle, and Mabel my araucana were at it again, though this time Mabel finally won. They were seriously fighting like cockerels - jumping, legs in air. No wounds, though it looked like Bea might've had a nick inside her mouth, had some faint blood that cleared up (as best I could see, impossible just about to get that birds beak open when you want, unless it's 5am). So Beatrice is back at the bottom after close to a year actually. Each time she saw Mabel after, she took off running. I'll be monitoring them, but hopefully they'll continue on as they have been up till now (minus the mini fights) which is friendly, when it all settles. Only Annabelle is a turd about frequent, unecessary enforcement of the pecking order. Esmé actually proved herself yet again to be my right hand chicken, she stepped in twice to break up fights, even pecked Mabel on the head as if to say 'alright, knock it off and calm down now'. My problem solving Pekin lol.

Anything else to keep in mind after a reshuffle like this?

Yep Brisbane was cooler today. Funny today mine did a pecking order shuffle and the bottom chook was picking the top chook (who is annoyingly broody). Then a different chook attacked the top chook cock fight style too.

The heat is back tomorrow though.. I've spent the last week building a new coop and nesting box and that wasn't nice in this weather. Mostly finished, the chooks are in the new one but steps up to the pop door seem to be too complicated for my less intelligent hens.. they'll get the hang of it in the end..

Still need to figure out a better location for the triple nesting box. Currently it's under the coop and access is hard. I can put it in the open and add a polycarbonate roof but then it's harder to get in unless I make the poly roof easily flippable. Or I can put it on a rail like system under the coop and pull it out for easy access yet giving it good protection..

It only got to 37c which yes was cooler. We had the power off from 11 til 2 hottest part of the day but they seemed to all make it through ok. Original letter said 8 til 5 but i saw they didn't even show up to start the work til after 10. Todays meant to be hot again.

Some of my older girls have been doing this too for the last few weeks. I wonder whether this hot weather is throwing them out. They seem to settle down again after a few days.

Not the best start to the morning was just reading Byc when i heard thor going off behind the house. Went out quick look couldn't see anything was going to go back when he ran over to Anni, Rod and Teilas tractor. RIP Teila. Thanks to thor i did manage to save anni and rod. Not sure how it got in there. There is a tiny gap you can see in the picture but it's only enough to fit abit of paper under.
