Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

That does indeed sound divine. I hope it all manages to workout for you.

Thank You

It will be a logistical nightmare but once over, well worth it.

It is still kind of hush hush as I have not discussed it with work.  As I am currently working from home, I can not see it being a problem for them, I can fly down for meetings etc.  Plus, they have staff who are based all over the country and the Philippines.  Planned for probably August this year if not sooner [depends on the few irons we have in the fire, hubby's current work application etc].  If work say 'No" we are going anyways it would just be nice to do it and keep my job.

Anyways .. Forrest Beach, which is a beautiful seaside village 18kms west of Ingham and 130kms north of Townsville.  [Yep, I know, going hotter, but we will have air conditioning ;) ].  Yes, I am taking the girls!  Definitely not going without them!  The logistics of moving them will be fun

We are going for a few reasons 1.  My son is in the process of purchasing his own place which will leave hubby and I in this rental and with hubby's hours being cut back, struggling to pay an exorbitant rent per week.  2. And, the main reason, hubby's Dad lives there is a high set Queenslander by himself.  He is in his 80's, lives alone and finding it more and more difficult to maintain the property.  So, our moving in with him is a win/win situation for all of us and we are all very excited about it.

I have been up there a few times to visit and while we will still be working, definitely a step towards semi-retirement lifestyle, walks on the beach before work etc.  Also, this will hopefully be the last time we have to move.

It a lovely area up there. I lived in Townsville about 15 years ago. Remember since you're father in law is already there it's easiest to set up a new coop for the girls first, then move them, with thier stuff, they are fine in cat cages in an aiconditioned car for a couple of days drive, as long as you don't stop for too long, and give them water when you do stop.

Well, tomorrow is Tuesday so it's my day off. I've spent this evening planning the mother of all nesting boxes and hope to get it built tomorrow. Our current nesting box is a modified night stand and it's done well to last over 12 months but chipboard isn't really designed to be out in the weather and considering all the rain we had over winter...

Anyway, if I succeed, the new one will have three bays spacious and it's a rear rollout design so that we can collect the eggs without having to go into the chook pen. I'm going to use marine ply which should hold up to the elements. My wife isn't confident that I have the sufficient skill level but I'm pretty determined and I'm convinced that my design will work. I'm sure the fellas at Bunnings cringe when they see me walk in!

Sounds very exciting. Good luck with it all.

It's cooler tonight now because of the rain. Today was hot, but when there's little to no relief at night, that makes the struggle hard. I'm less worried about the girls tonight, their fan should be sufficient, it is for me. Hopefully they'll get a better nights sleep too. Nothing worse than having a shower, feeling clean for all of like 5 minutes then sweating again.

Plus the rain brought out the toads and that rat who I thought had moved on, cheeky bugger. Anyone else's backyard look like a river yesterday too? I had 5 wet girls to rescue and dry off in the laundry. The palms and even the chicken pen weren't enough to keep them dry, since the water was pooling in the pen. On the plus side, Mabel my araucana absolutely LOVED being dried with the hair dryer. She sat on my lap and just mellowed out completely, despite the noise. Pampered little madam's my lot ;)

Not a river but nice and wet in the morning. Dried up by lunch time though. Still got to just under 37c yesterday but after the 40's that was a nice relief.

Thursday should be fun here. Was meant to go to brisbane for the day to visit my mum but our temps are going to be in the 40's for the day so can't leave thor locked up in those temps. Oh did i mention energex is doing an uprade in our street that day so no power at all from 8am to 5pm. Hmm thats going to be fun. No power out here means no water ( i can bottle some before hand) so no flushing toilets no fans and no sprinklers for the girls.

Good morning folks

Thanks sjturner79. Yeah, depending on whether hubby gets the job he has applied for, he may be up there months before me which will give him time to build their coop. If he gets the job, we will also then be able to afford to have someone collect the girls from here, where I will still be and deliver them to him. However, if he does not get the job, it will be a little trickier but we will work it out. We are both determined to take them with us .. just the thought of having to part with them tears me up.

Good luck with the build Sparky.

Gees satay Thursday does not sound like fun at all

Yeh I believe there's a service you can hire to transport pets in Queensland. Name escapes me. They get food, water, and aircon though. There's probable a few services like that though. Fingers crossed all goes to plan for you Teila.

Satay, I hope you get through thursday somehow. It's hot here, but the humidity has gone at least so it feels cooler and more tolerable. 30 degrees actually feels like 30, not 35.

Went to let them out this morning and Mabel reminded me that she tried crowing once, and decided to give it a go again. It's the most awful sound, not a proper crow, but it's loud and got me downstairs quicker. Seriously an actual rooster would be quieter than my hens.
