Hi all! I'm new and recently directed here by the excellent Teila (thanks Teila!) but please forgive me if I'm not very vocal! I love reading all your posts and seeing what's up with all your chooks but being a long-time lurker it's hard to shake the habit of just reading and never replying

Quick run-down of my situation; currently the mum of 5 8-week old Easter Eggers (they fit our standard for Araucana but the rest of the world probably just calls them EEs) and 4 week-old babies

from the same source. It's been weird with these guys because my first batch came out all varying shades of grey colours(3 lavenders, 1 splash and 1 pale blue) but now with my 4 babies, one's black, 1 is splash, 1 is blue and 1 is the palest chipmunk I have seen that still has black on her (she's the one with the funky eye if you've seen my other posts). Luck of the draw I guess.

Here's some pics to make this long-ish post worthwhile!
8-week-olds that are ~6 weeks old in this pic;

Babies!
This was their first day

Welcome! Love the pics!

So, it is looking like the 12th of May might be pet relocation day and the 16th of June relocation day for me. So looking forward to having it all done and dusted and more importantly, getting to see hubby again! If it is the 16th of June, we would have been apart for 14 weeks.

The Easter weather at Forrest Beach was not kind as far as coop progress goes but these are the latest from Easter Monday:

Hey folks. Just thought I'd share a video of my chookies because you are the only people I know who will sit through even a 60 second chicken video

Been playing round with the video on my camera and the non feathered kids wouldn't let me practice on them

And here's Ezzie, putting her (clean) foot forward. Her new foot feathers have fluffed out nicely.

.. A big welcome to Harmsody and to Scintillation .... You will enjoy your time here, I know.

Enjoyed every moment of your video appps .... the girls are just beautiful, and all that luscious greenery they have to pick at, at their leisure. Made me feel downright ashamed of myself - although there is honestly not a lot of greenery around the back garden - except for some short grass, quite a few shamrocks, and some violets, roses and other plants. Not the most inspiring of stuff for my girls.

..............

We too have a new kitten. 16 weeks old. His name is Sherlock, Sherla OR ( Benedict Cumberbatch - or Benny for short ), along with a few other names we occasionally call him when he's broken ( 2 now ) items, and torn wrapping paper to shreds from 2 huge long rolls. How he got to them is beyond me. We must decide on his name before his vaccination this coming week. He is to be re-vaccinated as he came from breeder, to owner ( who got a new job taking her interstate and overseas ) - to my sister who has recently put in an order for a Birman kitten, and wants only 1 cat - to us, so not being sure - and no-one seems to know - he is to be done again. He is utterly adorable, and in only 8 days has developed 'play routines' with my Golden Retriever Miss Ruby, who is 10 x times his weight, and probably 15 x times bigger than he is. !!! This has been a progressive manouvre, little by little. Am very pleased - they are having fun. When it all ramps up to warp speed, it's time to stop the play.

I have taken some photographs, and will post them when I get to downloading them to my computer. He looks very Bengal in fact - but is probably crossed with something else, so as far as breeders are concerned, he is probably a tabby. Beautiful perfect Bengal markings all over, Bengal face, eyes, spine stripes, rib stripes spots and rosettes, and perfect tail rings of the Bengal. But he has a white bib and white feet, although some Bengals are born with those too. He even has, in the right light, a wee bit of Bengal coat 'glitter'. Will be happy to show him off, when I have enough good pix to share. If anyone ever tells us we have a true Bengal, then we are extremely fortunate.

..........

Chookies are still moulting everywhere, but pin feathers are aplenty. So far so good.

Have a good week, everyone -

Cheers ~~

@Anniebee

Sadly they don't really get to enjoy the greenery. Without fail if I let them out our hawk population comes to visit for the next week. So it's strictly supervised grazing only

Which is also why it's still so green
