Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I would rather drive 3 hours to pick up eggs than have them posted. I've bought posted eggs. Though the eggs may arrive intact, the chicks are generally weaker and have more incidents of splayed legs. I had to cull all of my most recent posted batch after hatching. Many of the breeders that i know refuse to post eggs because of the terrible feedback they receive from customers.

Fancy .... your splash silkie is adorable. That gorgeous full head of downy fluff. Beautiful.

Not too chuffed about the new format. I think I may be missing out on quite a lot, but then maybe not - as many ppl who used to post regularly, are not posting now ?? :( Hope that is only a temporary problem.

Teila has not been seen at all, and she was a profilic poster, however, she is up in the northern regions of Queensland now, and has more than plenty to do, settling into her new home.

Take care - hope the weather is being sort of kindly for you. I know you Tassie folks have had more snow.

Cheers .......

I'm trying to work this format out too.
I love your silkie are splash silkies common. Her house looks great too.
I lost my poor Tiger (silkie) on the weekend. The girls were over and I thought they would be really upset, but they took it in their stride. I think because we have lost a few chooks over the last few months due to age that they realise it happens. They were very sad but understood that animals die. The one they worry about the most is Bear because he is 9 now and German Shepherds don't have as long a life span as the smaller dogs.
I'm getting some lovely splash , I even managed a buff splash she is very pretty. I will be collecting eggs soon . Oh sorry to hear about your losses, I've had a few over the last few weeks. I guess you do become accustomed to losses, but some are a little harder to accept. It's difficult to remove the sentiment from death no matter what the species.
On average all of our German shepherds lived to the grand old age of 14. We lost Heidi at 9 , but she was struck by lightening and suffered neurological damage.
Enjoy your Bear while you have him, that's all you can do. :)

Do they post quail eggs? Won't matter where he is from if you can. I've had chicken eggs from the other side of Australia. Not sure if quail are too delicate though?
I've posted eggs all over Aus, only bad results were from WA, yes quail eggs post quite well as when packaged in a regular carton there is ample room for extra padding.

Thanks Annie, yes I had wondered about Teila . She may also be having internet issues. We were in a complete internet blackout here due to the NBN connection.
The weather has been fairly mild , we finally got some rain but this weekend is full of horse competition and of course it's going to be wet.

The cold has finally hit us this season with temps in the minuses this week. I really do hate winter with a passion :lau Marans have finally started to lay so fingers crossed i'll be back to hatching them soon. Has anyone heard from Teila since her move?

Fancy would you risk sending to me in Perth. I would love some of your splash silkies when your ready to part with some eggs. I understand if you don't want to send to WA.
Good luck with the horse events this weekend. I hope you don't get to much rain.
