Your girls sound very spoilt and have a great selection of foods to choose from. If it was me I would cut out the wheat in the afternoons if anything. Thanks Fancy.... I think it was my first and only show experience!!! I sure hope I have not put my chookens in danger! The two I took are well! But poor Molly is still sick not eating or drinking! I read on line to give her Espom salts in coconut water! I did that this evening. Fingerscrossed. The hen that lays the large eggs is Madge she is a very large bird (and bossy) she is Hamburgh leghorn cross she eats the same as the others...just more she is so greedy....my chickens have layer pallets available all day and wheat with sunflower or crushed maize in the afternoon. They also have mixed greens we grow for them kale, silverbeet, fennel and of course grass. 2 - 3 times a week they have porridge...once a week they have tuna or yogurt with chia seeds. Is this too much protein? If so are you suggesting I separate Madge at tuna/yogurt feed time? Getting back to sick Molly ...I worm all of them every three months... they are due now. Should I worm her if she is unwell? Thanks so much for your great feedback I always learn something new!

Yay ... can't wait for photosI have 5 baby marans hatched.![]()
Once a birds reaches 24 weeks of age the protein levels need to be kept between 16 and 17% . A good quality pellet , fresh greens and the occasional treat should be all they need. Chia and quinoa are a little too high in protein for birds, that is its difficult to know how much is too much. Epsom salts are used to flush mycotoxins, so unless you think she has picked up some rancid feed I'm not sure how effective it will be. What product do you use to worm them ?Thanks Fancy.... Piperazine only treats for round worm and you have to treat twice , 10 days apart in order to kill any hatching larvae. Chickens are susceptible to several species of internal parasites so I use a levamisole product. Big L wormer contains levamisole and it has 2 x treatment dosages. The weaker dose only treats round worm, but the stronger dose treats for more. Avitrol plus is another wormer used by many breeders.Update on poor sick Molly (SSH batam) as mentioned I separated her on Wednesday...she has had a little to eat, scrambled egg with a little yogurt After I gave her antibiotic for ornamental birds Triple C Chlortetracyclinr hydrochloride...I feed her drop by drop . Fingers crossed she will continue to improve.
My girls (2 standard and 3 bantams) are due to be wormed this includes sick Molly. The instructions on the Piperazine solution is confusing...last time I gave them 10ml in a litre of water...but this time I would prefer to give them individual dose ... I have researched everywhere but can't find anything ! Secondly should I dose sick Molly? Appreciate any help!![]()
Thanks. I'm not a fan of this new format either. Bummer should have realised it is yeast based. I'm allergic to yeast... Yes i'm weird but i'll keep it in mind for hubby perhaps. Thanks for the info.Sorry Satay...I am having trouble with the new format...kombucha is marvellous if a bit off putting visually! All you need to do is grow a scoby...sweetened tea fermented ...make tea (any tea even teabags) dissolve some sugar for the yeast to eat. Leave it to ferment in a glass container with a coffee filter or muslin over the top... a film (yes it does look like scum) grows which is the scoby.... just google it... so I can post you a scoby x
You did better than me. 12 eggs set, 6 x not fertile and only hatched 1 Wyandotte. Giving up on the others today. Time to clean the incubator and try again.Total of 6 marans out. 4 not fertile and one quit about day 18. Not to bad for first hatch now they are back laying. Cleaning the bator and going to add a few Belgians and some more marans to see how they go this time.
