Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

7 pages of catch ups. :barnie

So very sorry to hear of the loss of Molly, Susan Hampshire ... and the same for your Midnight LuckysMum .. and K.Riggs ... having those hoon mongrels kill your chicken for laughs, is utterly disgusting -- and very disturbing.

RIP to all those lovely feathered friends.

Welcome to newcomers. ( can only see K.Riggs, AndyPandy and think SandeeC ) .... AndyPandy ... I am a 1.5 minute drive from the IGA supermarket in Upwey ... are you anywhere near there ? ... it's a lovely area, not so good in the summer though.

Mandy and her scaly mite !! ... her legs are more black looking now, and she has again resorted to staying in her bed ... will come out to sit near the layer pellets ( food source close at hand !! ) .... so I pick her up and put her somewhere from where she has to walk - which she does quite happily - but usually straight back to the confines of her coop. Also open the gate and she likes to walk / waddle out to eat grass, but not for long. She seems happy and healthy and has a huge crop of food at the end of every day.

Have begun the Vicks treatment, but think I might have to resort to Vet. intervention ... for a chemical wash. The darned mites seem to have packed themselves so tightly under the scales, yet the scales are not lifting at all ??? ... I am tempted to lift one scale at least, but have been advised here, not to do that, so haven't. She is always better after the vaseline treatment, and likes her feet & legs being rubbed / massaged. I gently stretch her legs, and that seems to help also. Any animal / bird / person - not using their muscles properly, don't move well, ultimately. So it is with her. But - she is overall much better than she was say, 6 months ago. I think she has developed a 'habit' of sitting near the food and water ... but she sure makes her way back into bed at night with Molly - they shuffle about for best and most comfortable positions. Any other suggestions ( apart from the Vicks - which I have now begun and will do once a week for another 3 weeks ).

Loved the photo you posted of a snow capped Mt. Wellington Fancy ... what a spectacular view you have.

No other news from Upwey, except that it has been and continues to be, exceedingly cold (read 'freezing' ).

Cheers all ....
Sulphur powder mixed in with Vaseline will step it up a bit if you think that you need to hit them harder. Pestene is sulphur mixed with rotenone. The sulphur is fine and can be fed to animals but the rotenone is nasty stuff, and has been closely linked to Parkinson's.
Very sad time here at Inlet Farm. We had to say goodbye to our beloved Rosie. She was coming up to 29 and the kids first pony. I will miss her plodding around my garden and she now rests eternally under her favourite pear tree. :(

I'm thinking silkie from the colour of the comb and wattles of the lighter two on the perch?
In unrelated news i learned my gander is a Tufted Roman today which isn't what i was told. I suspect he is crossed with an Embden because he has blue eyes.

New girls in their isolation pen. Look in lovely condition, apparently about a year old. Anyone know what they might have in them? Previous owner just said bantams.

I'd say silkie crossed with partridge bantam Wyandotte. I have a 9 year old hen silmilar, I call her a Wilkie. :p
