Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Could have something to do with the snow on the roads and don't rely too heavily on tracking advice, we raced into the airport to pick up some semen from a stallion in WA only find that contrary to the tracking advice it was still in Melbourne. Not happy Jan, vet at home , mare sedated and we had to wait 2 hrs in town for the next available flight.

How annoying!? I'd be so mad if i went all the way to the airport! I think you are right about the snow. Fancychooklady (or anyone!) how much do you know about incubating damaged eggs? The duck eggs did arrive but i think they played football with them the air cells are in pretty bad shape. I added some pics. I need advice!!!

Satay knows more about duck eggs than I do. I live on the river and the ducks around my garden do all the work. You need to rest the eggs for 24-48 hours to allow them to settle.
Pointy end down and away from the heating in the house.

thanks fancy

You have the Covina didn't you say?. It seems that the tilting isn't too extreme of an angle and pretty gentle. If i leave it off for the first few days after setting tomorrow do you think i will be safe to use the auto turn on it after that? Some people say do it by hand for detatched air cells but i'm not feeling good about that. Surely it's better to just leave the bator closed if i can.

Yes it is rather gentle in operation. I personally can't see any difference in auto turning and manually turning. If the eggs are less than 10 days old (since laid ) it won't hurt to let them settle on the shelf for an extra day.

Oops :lau

If i end up with only one duckling from this hatch i wouldn't want it to have no friends now would i? Well thats what i told my husband :D
Gender guesses? I tried to get girls, the other siblings were bigger, more upright and tons more green on their backs. They are 8 month old Muscovy x Cayuga. Their quack is soo quiet and squeaky.

Sulphur powder mixed in with Vaseline will step it up a bit if you think that you need to hit them harder. Pestene is sulphur mixed with rotenone. The sulphur is fine and can be fed to animals but the rotenone is nasty stuff, and has been closely linked to Parkinson's.
Very sad time here at Inlet Farm. We had to say goodbye to our beloved Rosie. She was coming up to 29 and the kids first pony. I will miss her plodding around my garden and she now rests eternally under her favourite pear tree. :(

Oh Fancy .... I am so very sorry to hear about Rosies' demise. RIP gorgeous little girl. At rest beneath her favourite pear tree - that is beautiful. Is always so unutterably sad to say goodbye to a faithful pet friend. She is at peace.

:hugs
