Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi everyone! Can't wait to get to know you all!

:welcome tigercountry 2023. .... If ( considering we don't have tigers here ... LOL ) ... you are a Richmond supporter - I so hope that team goes onto the Grand final - and wins... having beaten Geelong last night. But then, if I am wrong - I am intrigued as to the origin of your name .... I am a Melbourne supporter myself, but my '2nd' team is Richmond.

Cheers ~

K Riggs ... sure hope you found your roo, safe and sound.

Andypandy - not me with the roo sounds in Upwey. I don't have a rooster. However, every now and then my Araucana ( Mindy ) lets out a weird rooster type call ... but I doubt you would hear it. The sound is mild by comparison to a proper roo, but I think she thinks she is part rooster - at times !!!

cheers ........

Awe man would you believe he was on my roof and started crowing the loudest I have ever heard at 4:45 and I had to go out in my dressing gown with a broom and shoo him down.. Chase him around and catch him and put him to bed and it was snowing :barnie

Could have something to do with the snow on the roads and don't rely too heavily on tracking advice, we raced into the airport to pick up some semen from a stallion in WA only find that contrary to the tracking advice it was still in Melbourne. Not happy Jan, vet at home , mare sedated and we had to wait 2 hrs in town for the next available flight.

Not good .... hope that everything ultimately went well ... hope your mare did not have to have a 2nd dose of sedation - ( while waiting for the airlines to get their act together ). You are so courageous doing things this way - but it should NEVER be a problem ( yet it often is ). Do you have a stallion resident ? Even if you do, his blood lines might not suit what you are after, from a mare. So AI is the only way to go. I think it is wonderful that you seek the best possible blood lines, from imported semen. I would be fit for sedation if I were awaiting the goods from a stallion for breeding to my mare. So much depends on the efficiency ( ? ) of airline schedules and proper handling of deliveries. Best of good luck with it all ........

Cheers ~

So glad to hear this. He must have thought he was Christmas - being up on your roof announcing his availability to all lady chookens in the area. !!

:thumbsup

So many pages covered again this time. Not happy with this situation. The only 'notification' I had was via another new thread. Nothing from updates on this thread. I still have to rely on clicking on an older ( or, as mentioned - recent new thread ) notification to get here. ... and back I go ( like so many of you all probably do also ) ... this time about 12 pages. I click on like, when I see a good post going way back, but it, and replies etc. are never acknowledged by email notification. hmmm. !!

Have ticked every available request for notifications in "My Account" but so far, to no avail.

Grrrr ....... :barnie

Anniebee that's not good. I am getting my notifications so I wonder why you don't.
I still haven't got the hang of this site yet though. K Riggs I'm glad you found your rooster though not the best way to find him little S#$%. I hope he doesn't find his way up there again.
I just came home from dinner with my husbands family, hubby stayed home he has go to work early. I looked out the window to where my new Sussex's are and I couldn't see the one who insists on sitting on the roof of the lean to, so I went out and there are feathers everywhere. Not sure what happened, hubby is asleep so I don't know if he cleaned up or if a cat got the chook (its a huge chook) and took it away. There are foxes but since we've had dogs they don't come near. Very unhappy. I will have to lock them up too now.

I am getting my notifications ok too  How annoying Anniebee!
Yes little s$?# indeed.

Oh no the dreaded feather pile :(
Such a horrible feeling, I don't want to lose another one of my Araucana's so badly that I only let them out an hour before dusk at the moment and walk around with them.. Not what I wanted and NOT what they want. They are very cross when I leave the run of a morning and shut them in again :(.[/QUOTE]

I found her at 4.30 this morning. She had been killed but I'm not sure what happened. Paul said this morning that last night bear was barking at the fence, so I think a cat was there. I'm hoping the cat did it and bear rescued the chook and left it in the doorway of the patio for us to find. He hadn't eaten any of it. So now I'm going to have to find a way to shut off their coop at night. The bantams and medium sized hens are in a 8' enclosure and solid coop because I was worried about them. Because my Sussex are huge I didn't think they'd have a problem and the last 2 years we've had chooks in all the 4 coops in the back and only the main one is secure and we've never had a problem. Enough ranting now.
I hope everyone else is having a great weekend. I'm going to candle my first lot of eggs today and see how they are. They have been in a week.
