Here is a pic of where I keep young chicks until they're big enough to go in with the rest of the girls. My father in law made it for me, its great but a bit heavy, its his first attempt though.

hi and :welcome to all the new members. I have been busy myself lately and just gotten over some spine surgery. I find this new format harder to use and I have stopped getting emails too. :he Sorry I forgot who asked about the ducks. I have 5 females muscovies, 3 male and 3 female mallards (cayuga, khaki and Rouen). You need to watch for bumble foot too and black sore on their feet, its a staph infection so highly contagious. I feed mine duck pellets, the love peas and shouldn't eat spinach. Muscovies will fly, mallards don't tend too. Muscovies are quiet and mallard girls are noisy. good luck with them I love my ducks they have so much personality.
We have just bought 2 puppies they are mastiff cross Rottweiler, the little girls is a whiner and he is laid back and calm.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas, best wishes for 2019 I hope the weather is kind to you.:)

I'm thinking about adding a silver sussex to the mix - what do you think of them?

So sorry you lost your own hatched chicks. The ones in the photo are such cuties! And I love your chick house too.

Do you breed for showing? Or is it an income thing?

I think a sussex would be great, they are excellent layers and very pretty birds. I just have chooks as a hobby but was trying to get enough of certain breeds to just keep my flock fresh and maybe sell some on the side to friends, my husband hates it though he thinks its a waste of time and money :( I find it rewarding and relaxing just watching them interact. I've just hatched my first lot of Silkies and Pekin Bantams which are adorable!, they are for friends but now I'm thinking I may have to just get a couple for me, LOL. There is a show quality breeder in McLaren Flat which is only an hour from you if your in Adelaide, she's so nice and her birds are gorgeous and well cared for. Do you want her info? I know she has Silver Sussex.

Gratz on the new puppies. Would love to see pics. Our rescue sarge has gained 10kg in the 8 weeks we have had him and is looking quite good now.
