Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hello!

I’m in Tas with Faverolles as my primary, plus a variety of acquired breeds! Most of my fav girls I got as older birds. So, this season I’ve started to build my breeding flock of Favs and it has been most challenging with posted eggs and learning about incubation!

These are two of my babies from my first round of purebred Favs. Hopefully I’ll have enough stock to be more fussy with conformation next season.

But that’s the road I have chosen. I’ve also got a notion of developing frizzle faverolles, which might make me tear my hair out even more 😆

My goal is to develop show quality birds, and I’m discovering how tricky that will be - especially with a rare breed, living on an island, posted eggs, the quality of birds available, a novice incubator and La Niña.

I do love a challenge. Also, if you hear frustrated screaming from across the strait, that’ll be me. 😆

You're in company with me, I am planning to try Frizzle Barnevelders. Which I may regret...

Hi from me in Adelaide :frowI hope your breeding project goes well

@ChookieG How's things over your way?
I don't know if you remember, but I was telling you about a feral cat which turned up, and I was worried about more kittens.

Here he is! (and yes its a he, so no kittens)
Sorry for the mess, farm cats seem to like it that way. He's been desexed, and is living inside for the moment. He has just started liking cuddles, and is getting more friendly by the day.

I'm so happy he's found a forever home!!! You're living proof that feral cats can be successfully reintegrated back into domestication. Well done @Sussex19!! Love your kitty stories...thank u for sharing! :hugs

He has even started to purr! The first time, it was just a wheezing sound, nothing like a good rumbling purr, but it's getting there.
We trapped him, and then kept him in cage for a bit, before letting him in to the room.
He is quite young, not fully grown. I have my doubts as to whether a fully grown tom can be domesticated. Interestingly, in one of the pics I got of him on my game camare before we caught him, there is another feral tom in it, so there must be a lot around.
Anyway, sorry for rambling on :)
In other news, it is looking like I've got 2, maybe 3 pullets in the Marans, and their mother has got tired of them now, so they are on their own!
I hope that everyone is going to have a merry Christmas!

My cat still does a wheezing sound!

Hmm.. that's interesting... wonder whether anyone's successfully domesticated an adult feral cat before... how old do you reckon he is?

Yeah poor babies.. and a terrible consequence to the native wildlife too... do you also capture feral dogs about?

Anyway, sorry for rambling on :)
All good! Love your ramblings! LOL!

You too love!
