Hi all

I'm back....... thanks ducky for changing the title now I dont feel like too much of an outsider

and noooo not my eating habits but my four little feathered friends, as this is the first time we have ever had chickens, I presumed you gave them scraps and they would eat them up, my grandmother had chickens and I guess I was pretty young but think they ate almost anything...... Well I have to cut everything up into little pieces for mine - they love meat - especially leftover bbq sausages and lamb chops ohhhhh yum - they eat watermelon, cheese, ham and all sorts of lettices..... I used to have a veggie garden but all my brocolli plants and herbs got eaten so we are in the process of making it chicken proof and starting again as they have almost killed off my tomotoe plants and eaten all the strawberries.

My girls have lots of food the lay pellets I get from the poultry place is always full but they just never seem to stop eating, they do like bread so every morning when I cut the crusts off my daughters sandwiches for lunch I cube them up and the chooks love them but if you give them a piece of bread they just ignore it - Am I spoiling them and making them lazy as our neighbours have chickens too which are alot older but I have chucked a piece of bread over the fence just to see and they have gone mad chasing each other around after it.

Because it has been so hot lately the soil around the yard is quite dry and I guess chickens loves worms so have managed to buy some meal worms from the pet shop and they go crazy over them.

Whenever I go outside they come running for a snack and jump up and try and get it out of my hand I can barely walk to their coop to put the food inside as I have to zigzag otherwise I will step on one of them, then they realise where I am going and run to be there first.

I love my girls and it still give me great joy when I see and egg and most mornings I will watch either one of them actually lay the egg, we have three laying boxes but all four will cram into one and lay in the same box, I have gone into check for eggs and three of them almost sitting on top of each other trying to do their business its quite funny.

I could go on an on..... there is one thing since Robert the roo left the group the girls will come up to me and put them bum down so I can scratch or tickle their tails feathers, presume that is what they are after and guess Robert used to do that for them - does anyone elses hens do that..... its hard when I am hanging out the clothes and all four come over and squat at my feet..... oooh boy

Anyway back soon have to get back to the stove.....

Technically, yes. They love to use that one as a trick question when asking us how many states Australia has.

Hi Heather. U sound like u spoil yours just like I do. I cube the food up for them too into smallish dice so I can throw it about more n scatter it so the boss chooks don't just get the lot

I too know the feel of a chicken foot stuck under mine but it's hard to sidestep eight tacklers at the same time. I find it helps to hold my chook bowl out at arms length in a direction I'm NOT going to get a little bit of space to step. I usually open the door n fling two or three pieces to the far end of the coop so I have room to get in n shut door. Then they're back. Love em to bits. Could have a hundred n still love each one, not that I can identify all my eight yet. Three I know, the others all have twins or triplets, but they know I love em!

I had to come on to post a photo of my newest baby...but also wanted to show off the banner I got delivered today.

I ordered a heap of promo stuff from a printing company that I can use for advertising and promotions at the auctions I go to each year, so here they both are!!!

The little one who is half sister the duck on the banner was a surprise in the incubator when I got home from work today.
