Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Had a visitor this afternoon. He did laps just coasting round and round in circles for about 10 minutes.

He wasnt really paying much attention to our chickens though they were on guard and the rooster was watching it carefully.
He seemed more interested in something in the yard one or two over and went down there a couple of times. Last time he seemed to vanish so not sure if someones pet bunny was being a snack and thats why he didnt come back up.

Any idea what type of Hawk? he is exactly? Eating chickens aside they really are a beautiful bird arent they.

That is a fantastic shot apps!!!! Love it!
that looks like an eagle to me. But down here any predatory bird we see "Ahh, the Chicken hawk is back"!!

Looks like a Wedge Tail - was he that low, or did you take that with a telephoto?
A pair of them fly in circles around here every day- but always up high.

He was fairly low, just above the tree line but it was over next doors not us so that's with my 200mm lens and then I cropped in closer as well.

This one probably gives a better idea of how low, this was as he was coming around towards us so he got closer. He pretty much just kept flying in a circle round that tree to the side.

Kids were mesmerized. :)

We dug out the bird book and our best guess is the Little Eagle. Glad to hear they don't take chickens. He was too close for comfort for my un roofed run.

I dont know if its because I just never noticed them because we didnt have chickens but there seems to be eagles or hawks everywhere lately.

Great photo Appps. I have only every had one hawk try to take a chicken and it was tiny it tried to grab a bantam but I scared it off. Then the peewees saw it and chased it out of the property. They are brave little birds lol.
