Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Mog and all other sniffle fighters. Go to your local vet and ask if you can purchase some - OXYTET POWDER - I got a little container of it for about $10, it goes in their water for 7-10 days and cleared my Ancona's up great.
Get onto it ASAP otherwise you might have to get more.
oooh thanks for the tip! I have actually recently emailed the bird vet in Burwood to see if I can buy some anitbiotics from them without having to bring the birds in (I don't drive and it is a bit of a hike), but it is good to know what to ask for... meanwhile I do have OxymavB on hand - same ingredient though much more dilute form.

Hi everyone. Thanks pinky for the eggs Facebook group. Can anyone help me figure out how to tag someone's comment so that I can reply to it I'm new to this and cant work out how to do it.
Is anyone using ff with their chooks? I started about six weeks ago and I am LOVING the results. Would love to hear of anyone else's experience with it.
Luke I got my first batch of ancona eggs from heritage hatching but had really bad luck with them although the weather was really hot during shipping my second lot I got from Kate baker in wa and they were fantastic.

I have been meaning to try FF for a while but keep putting it off and I had the feeling it would be a bit late in the year to start now temperature wise. Did you use the apple cider vinegar method or a different one?

While on the garlic thing :). From the natural keeping thread they were saying that forms of garlic other than raw dont have as much if the good things. Ie cooked powdered etc looses good bits in process. so to just give minced garlic fresh.

Just wondered if maybe it would be better to do that once a week in some mash than add to their water since its being boiled its technically cooking first. thoughts?

I could imagine hat would work well too. Some one on this site recommended the boiling garlic thing to me when I had a prob with lice so I just use that. Not sure that is the only reason why I have not had them since but it seems to work so I just do that..

I think I may have been mind numbingly stupid and that's why my chooks are so underweight :-(

I just happened to notice a bit of dusty stuff clogging one side of their feeder and gave it a shake and the realization that should have hit me a month ago finally came that I've still got these guys on the grower crumble the bantams were on at their age but they are already now bigger than my bantams fully grown. The grower crumble is half the size again when I really look at it of the layer crumble the bantams are now eating.

They are probably skinny because it takes them so much longer to get a proper feed from these tiny little crumbles. I can't believe I'm so dumb :-(

Have tipped it all out and replaced with mixed layer crumble and pellets. They were happily scoffing down the full size pellets (which my bantams wouldn't touch). Hopefully they might get a better feed when they eat now - sigh.
