The Chicks are going ok. A couple latecomers have some leg issues but should be fine. The Yoko are in now but I don't have high hopes for them *shakes fist at australia post*

That's good. How many do you have in total out of how many?
Those dam postmen! I do hope you get at least some chicks.

Pinky, don't give hope up quite yet! I find that eggs will surprise you! I've heard of hatches from frozen eggs, so maybe your late ones will win out (Colourful is hoping for you). That said, I've now found that the best way to label fertile eggs (so they don't get kicked around the post junctions) is "wine enclosed" as they don't want to clean up the mess. I'll try it with the egg swap, and I hope it works.

I agree with those that helped, my Plymouth are all boys 3/3 but at least I'll be able to choose the most handsome

I've got another 3 eggs from the quail so I'm getting 10 a day at the moment which means (thankfully) they'll be able to pay for themselves when I sell the eggs/ quail. I've found now that quail are actually not easy to come about in Canberra so I've had a few people ask for them just when I've mentioned I've had them. Yays. Does anyone else sell eggs?

Don't worry Luke, your eggs will get bigger. I have a Sussex that laid 40g eggs at first and is slowly increasing them to 60-70g eggs. Give it time. Plus, as she has just started laying now she may be laying all Winter, which is a bonus

Does anyone here know how to give Ovation? I've been looking (and I've received some), but I can't seem to find how...

Yeah, I'll be happy with two girls. I'm hoping to get a male from another breeder. If not, the same lady will have Phoenix later on and that's what I originally wanted anyway so will try them and perhaps go by courier this time..

So, had a bit of drama the part couple hours. I had to put the Yoko in so I had moved the remaining eggs, that weren't showing any signs, into my old homemade incubator. I was really worried about it because I had trouble getting the humidity up and stable. I checked on them about every few minutes for a while there and eventually heard a peep! It was probably a very risky decision to help it, especially since it hadn't even pipped but, as I said, I was worried about the humidity and just had a feeling that something was wrong. It turned out to have been the right moved because that poor little baby was up side down and slightly cross beaked. He Didn't have a chance on his own. I scratched a tiny hole where the air sac was and couldn't find his beak so I broke the shell away and finally found him at the other end. Once he was open to the air I popped him back in the incubator and kept him moist. For ages, until he was ready. He's now out and very tired but I think he'll be ok.

TLDR: upside down chick is doing ok :)

Hi everyone, I am back lol.
Not much happening in my flock of blue and black Australorps but they have started laying like crazy again which is always good.
In regards to ovation, you just click the little thumbs up at the bottom of someone's post.
In regards to incubators you cannot go past R-Com. I have the R-com 20 and they are so reliable. Never had any problems with it. You can guarantee that if the egg is fertile it will hatch. They are very expensive but are worth it. You end up saving in the long run.
Can't wait for spring to come. I want to source some more show quality Blue, black and splash Australorp eggs. I have a few places in mind. I will probably hatch a few of my own blue and black lorps. Can't wait!

"wine enclosed" that is a great idea, you are sneaky.
One day I am just going to put on with big red texter "you break, you pay!!!" See if they will take the risk.

That's a good increase and yes I do hope she does lay through Winter, we will see if her other 2 friends can get into it now as well.

To give an ovation just click on the little thumbs up on the bottom write of a post then go add to ovation. At your profile click on the ovations and it says how many you have sent out and how many you have received, it's like a like on Facebook, but better...of course.lol.

You mean this ------> http://www.bellsouth.com.au/rcom/rcom20.asp AND WOW check out the R-Com Pro20USB at the very bottom, it shows you everything about the eggs, weight gain/loss, temp graph and humid grapgh through out the incubation.
SATAY- This is the ultimate data collector!!! Only prob I think it would cost a lot!!
The only price I could find on this site was $550 but not all 3 could be the same price!

Hi Luke,
Yeah I have the standard R-com 20 incubator. It is so reliable you don't really need the pro to tell you what went wrong with your incubation lol. The pro is more for exotic birds, not really needed for chickens. I ordered my r-com 20 straight frm the UK from P and T poultry as it was a little cheaper.
