Do you have Marans?
if so, how have you gotten them to lay such dark eggs??

Hello, Thanks cluckcluckluke, I love my Marans... I have French Wheaten Marans and a few Black Copper Marans that were bred here in Aus. I was just lucky getting my original girls and have been working on my lines for the last 3 n a bit years... I can not wait to see this seasons pullet eggs, fingers crossed they are as good as their mums....Not long now!

Yes a fellow Victorian I see! I mainly have Marans, Araucanas, just starting with Croads and have lots of cross bred girls to get interesting egg colours.

In the Dandenong Ranges so not that far really I should have two French Wheaten Marans pens going this season, All my Araucanas will probably be in a mixed pen but I'm still mucking around putting new sheds up and rearranging things at the moment.

Ugh. So how is everyone else going rain wise? I thought I was all organised for the downpour. Put up tarps and all on Saturday to help keep them dry but didn't allow for the river that was going to run through the coop. They were standing in 6" of water in their coop when I went to check on them this afternoon.
So spent the next hour digging trenches. So now muddy in there but not under water at least.

Wondering if its worth covering the wet stuff with dry wood shavings till the rain passes or if its just going to soak up the water from below.
