Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hello!

I'm glad to hear about everyone's egg status, who said you can't hatch in Winter? And I'm sorry about your budgie loss satay.

I promised photo's, and photo's there shall be.

First off, here are the older pair (unrelated). The Peahen is on the Left with my boy up the back. You can't really tell because of her next to him, but the boy is really growing (he's gaining weight really well).

And here are my Japanese bantams. You can see all three hens have gone broody and my little rooster can be seen sitting on the eggs too on occasion. That said, they're sitting on quail eggs, not bantam eggs as the bantam eggs aren't fertile (my boy still isn't "working")

And finally I have the new Peachicks. They are certainly not 6 months old, no matter what the lady told me, and they are a little underfed. If you look closely, you can see that the 3rd one from the left had white feathers on their wing, which means they are split. So if I put them over a pied or white, I can breed more pied and white. Yays.

I also found out that they had never been wormed, so they're in a temp aviary until I've got them clear of parasites. I've got a definite girl, a definite boy and two unknowns. I've also found a place in Queensland that sells whites (after DNA testing to tell their sex, as that's the only way for one under the age of 2-3 years) whom I'll be looking into at the end of the year.

Great photo's colourful!!!
They all look great, love how all 3 broodies are sharing.lol.

If you say that peafowl can only be sexed after 2-3 years, how do you know that you have a defiant boy and girl? Or is that only for the White Peafowl???

Yay! I love Peafowl! I'm getting some eggs to hatch from my sister-in-law this season... I'm sure once they are free of parasites and with a bit of love from you they will bulk up colourful! How exciting!
I feel really bad... I've been doing nearly everything on my own on the farm here since my partner left and I have had my Dad around the last few days to help me build my new chicken pens... He was up a ladder screwing the laserlight onto the roof when one of the roof bearers split and he fell forward through the roof and landed on his face/head/neck... He has no broken bones but is VERY sore and ohh I feel terrible,
sad.png
He is tough though and it could have ended up so much worse than it did, but it doesn't make me feel any better..
On an up note though, the pens look great and they are almost finished so I can keep plodding along by myself and get them done... And I finally have some pens the way I want them... Easy to clean and protected from the elements...

Just the white need to be DNA sexed as the others can be colour sexed from 6 months or so.

I'm sorry about your dad Chookpatch, I hope he heals up quickly.

And I look forward to your chicken pens being completed (shower us with photos!)

Yay! Hatch time! That's what Black Coppers look like

I love my Black Copper Marans, they are sooo friendly! The kids seem to gravitate towards them as chicks so they all seem to become 'pet' chooks. Ebony is my favourite and will squat down next to you for a pat... so cute

Thanks everyone for the well wishes too, I sure hope dad is not too sore tomorrow and I will definetely be posting pics of the pen when it is finally finished.. Can't wait to see more babies Pinky...
