Well done mate! You won't regret it.

Good on you, Luke. Have lots of fun with it. :jumpy :jumpy Couple of really ordinary things about her, Luke. Firstly her colour. A good wheaten marans should be tri-colour, and she is only one colour. But the reason I say she is weird looking is her tail, it looks really gamey. A pretty terrible type really. And she is the only one left out of 24 shipped eggs, so she cost $125. :th

Thanks!

holy SNAP! that is a lot for one hatched egg!
Can I send you some pictures of my Marans to see if they are alright for breeding?
One of the pullets I got of John ( your friend ) I think has a tail similar to your pullet.

Yah luke they are the best bator. Just helped my dad put his together this week been four years since I did mine so had to think a bit lol.

Chook, I use one of those incubators. it goes well. Holds accurate temp, the humidity is a bit off, but not enough to worry about. I have had really good hatch rates (except for the Marans from Jason). Had two loose wires when I got it, but luckily a friend soldered them, so now it goes well. Doesn't hold a high humidity well, but because I live in a humid area, I just add a sponge.

Sorry about the frizzle, some just aren't meant to make it.

The one and only pullet I have left from the shipped Marans eggs from SA is looking a bit odd.
Thanks Rexy, I was wondering if any one else had used these. The only thing I can really winge about is the so called see through lid and the temp seems to be out by 1 degree and the humidity is only 2% out. I got it up to 65 % without really trying so fingers crossed it has a good first run :)Great for the price and the auto turn aspect. The only thing is I didn't know whether to remove the zip tie or not so I have left it. Your girl might get better with her moult, I find it hard to tell some of mine apart that started out quite dark. And they say the ones with squirrelly tails lay a darker egg :) I have quite a few baby girls that look good in my hatched lot and one that is exceptionally bad. So black I thought it was a boy :/ I food dyed the ones that came out of the darkest eggs, 2 pullets and quite a few good looking boys. We'll see though as they get older....
Yay on your new bator Luke, I want another good one but I will have to wait till next season I think but if this one goes ok I might get another one..... but that would make 8 mwah ha ha ha

Young, I hope she's alright. Is she being pecked?

Bec, how's your girl with the sore bum?

Hey Pinky sorry I've been busy with a sick toddler :( Her bum still looks the same but cleaner. She is eating and drinking fine and she is active though. She seems to be the alpha hen, kicking Billina when she's lying down not doing anything to antagonise. They seem to be settling in well, though they still aren't too sure on the backyard yet. Here she is at the courtyard window, she loves watching me as much as I love watching her.

She's on the left here walking out to the backyard.

I think I removed the zip tie. Just trying to remember where it was. I only use the foam base, as when I put the top on, the temp went mad. And yeah, the lid is a pain. My temp is spot on, and humidity is out by about 2-3% also. When you don't do a staggered hatch, the day counter is handy too.

That girl is just starting the moult, about 12-13 weeks I think - 9th May from memory. Good that yours look overall ok.
