They're trying to hide from Maizie, who has a large personal bubble around her when roosting....and enforces it....to the adults too. Deep winter it changes, but otherwise, she likes a good 2 feet clear on either side of her.

Oh I have a couple like that.

Also have some they just want to snuggle up. Little Mouse loves to snuggle under Clyde the Brave. He is happy to sit on her head hahahaha. She also likes to snuggle with me.

As does Cayenne - I’ll have to get the video last night off the security camera where she flew up into my face (I’m sure it was funny), I wasn’t giving her the usual attention so she decided to take matters into her own wings.

But I was having trouble getting everyone settled, and trying to count everyone, they just weren’t ready to settle. I made them go to bed early as I have been so exhausted lately. I wanted an early night. But they were just restless and I was having trouble counting them. Then next thing I know Cayenne was flying up into my face, I caught her in my arms before she could fall. Sheesh! No wonder my allergies are so bad! But she’s a snuggler and loves to hide under my arm for a bit while I put everyone to bed. Guess I wasn’t giving her the attention she was due 😁

Love Storm's coloring and happy to see the furries getting along!
I got the storm but no pretty sky - just a LOT of rain and a lot of branches down blocking my way out.
Branches: brush pile in the coop for the littles to climb around on/in.

There's at least 1 golden INSIDE the pile

Quick update from me. Had a bit of a health event requiring a 911 call (always high drama in a small town - the cops always show up before the volunteer first aid squad have got out of bed), ER then surgery, then hospital for a couple of days. Back home though will have to return for more surgery. All fine but feeling a bit beaten up.
Spent my time on the ward watching the chickens on camera. But just 4 days and the chicklet’s have grown a lot.
With enough of a running start Geronimo is able to get pretty much anywhere now!
Cookie has ridiculously fuzzy feet. I hope she grows into them. She is also a sun bather. I can’t get close enough to see what that pink is on her top knot. I don’t think it is an injury.
The hawk or goshawk or whatever it is has a mate and the two call and circle the skies around the coop constantly. It is very concerning. Tassels keeps an eye open for them at all times.

Heal up, stay healthy.

Pink spot: crest pin feathers would look like that. Down has been shed, pins start coming through, skin is white (so looks pink).

Glad mama Tassels is teaching them to watch the skies. Maybe time to start feeding magpies and crows so they'll drive off the hawks.

Oh my goodness RC! So sorry that happened. Praying for a fast recovery and that your next surgery goes well. :hugs 💞

You read my mind. Before my emergency I was happy to see the crows being very assertive and I was about to line up my crow caller and bin of peanuts for them. Will do that later today.
Reassuring on crest pin feathers - she certainly isn't acting in any way either injured or bullied - actually she is with Geronimo in being a daring adventurer - but she is just a bit too little to get everywhere Geronimo can. Cookie is a funny little thing - she is so small and fluffy she sort of floats. Tassels sometimes bowls them all over when they get too near her digging. The others tumble and pick themselves up off the ground, but Cookie usually gets sent up in the air and lands a long way away. She doesn't seem to care though.

Many thanks. I actually am fine just now apart from the feeling beaten up bit. Want to get the rest of it out of the way as soon as I can though.
Better to get the summer warmth/sunshine/non-slippery with ice footing during the early recovery time.

BTW, sounds like Cookie is a smart one: using Tassels to launch herself into flight....

Happy Tuesday! 💗
Somebody started laying while we were gone! 💗

It's Astrid!💞 She came in the coop as I was posting that someone layed...lol I knew she was getting close. She's 15 weeks, so since I have 3 eggs and another coming today, she started right at 14 weeks.

I just put down fresh straw, she wasn't sure at first, they've only had shavings, but she figured it out.
