Not normally. They will be the darkest for the first few months. My wellies don't lay overly dark eggs. Mine I would say are maybe a shade or two darker than my australorps a light terracotta colour i would guess but not all mine are laying yet.Got 6 eggs yesterdayOne of the older Light Sussex hens is finally laying, so that makes it 7 out of the 9 laying right now. Both my Wellies are laying. I'm hoping their shell colour will improve a bit with age (is that possible?).![]()
Could be. How old are they now? I will have to keep any eye on my eggs to see if mine are laying yet they are a week older than yours.
Wonderful. Thanks![]()
So once you do get the roo in with everyone else how do I check if the eggs are ok to eat and not fertile? Sorry, I'm only new to chickens and have a lot to learn and there is probably an area of the forum to learn but I've not found the correct area yet
Post a picture when you can of your egg colour. I will try to get one of mine. Thanks Satay. Could be my eyes, but I swear their shell has darkened a bit. Then again, they've only been laying for maybe 2-3 weeks
wow, showing dogs. That's going to be funYeah Luke - I have 2 Dalmatians already, but this next one will be my show dog. I'm pretty excited about it.
I hope to one day have egg colours like that. I've maybe got the variety of the first 3 rows, with the top egg in the 4th row looking like what my Wellies are laying right now.
They are about 23 weeks old, which would mean they could be laying.Could be. How old are they now? I will have to keep any eye on my eggs to see if mine are laying yet they are a week older than yours.
