Took half an hour not to have butt pics of the black girl ( her name is Roo- everyone thought she was till she laid !)

I have 2 Light Sussex, Appps - Probably my least favourite of the Sussex varieties, but good, friendly layers nonetheless.

I adored my Coronation Sussex, she was absolutely beautiful.  I'm still sad she's gone.

I can't say I even know what the others look like. Had better go google coronation Sussex :)

Your Lorp x is gorgeous Sam

There's quite a few different colours you can get in the Sussex. Most common being the Light, but you can get Speckled, Coronation, Buff, Silver, Platinum, Red, Lavender, White.

I've got Speckled and Light at the moment.
I want to get more Coronation and Silver

Lol sounds like your hand are full with her. I read some where about taking a head bossy boots out for a while. Then she is the new one I'm sure more experiences chook wrangles will have some advice for you kat

Yeah I read that. I am sort of hoping she will turn around after the chicks grow a bit more and are in their enclosed space in the coop during the day.

I will have Light and Speckled Sussex hatching next couple of days.

I will be interested to see them and as they grow.
The guy we got our favs off had crossed the light Sussex with something to get a sex linked bird. Been trying to remember what? Only problem was the girls were very plain (I've forgotten what they looked like) but the boys looked like a light Sussex if I remember rightly . Pity not the other way round :)

Beautiful Sam :)
Ok so maybe I have few more hens and roos than most but I think I will be under the amount ash has too but then you add the ducks and turkeys... ok i'll quit while I am a head lol.

Some very nice birds in the posts above. I just came in from a bit of Chicken TV!
So how do you keep your roo quiet?
At dusk I go down and pick him up and put him into a night box I made. It is insulated and lined with carpet. Sits in the shade in the morning and afternoon.

We let him out to join in with the ladies at about 8 or so in the morning once the neighbors have gone to work. We can't stop him making much noise during the day but at least he is quiet in the morning.

Reducing down to one roo also made a big difference to the noise level.

Has a vent in each side, 4 in the roof and a big one in the floor that lifts out for cleaning.
