Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Open it up :) I never shut it all the way. I usually adjust it based on if it's hard to keep humidity stable but open it all the way for lock down.

Hmmm - getting my tax refund soon- thinking of buying this......

I have the rcom pro 50 and swear by them. I just bought another second hand one, used once and it is in perfect condition. You will be happy to know they are really easy to clean, fantastic hatch rate, easy and cheap to get parts for (I had to replace the turning motor in my oldest one last year, if I can fix one anyone can) I found the perks in the pro version were good enough to pay a little extra for. I got mine from p&t poultry overseas which made it almost the same amount as the standard version over here at bellsouth. The turning motor happened out of the warranty period but bellsouth were great and let me twist their arms for just the part and not getting them to put it in/service it for me like they wanted. It was as simple as unscrewing a few screws, unplugging the old and plugging in the new. The parts were cheaper to order from overseas too but I was mid incubation so needed one stat.. I highly recommend rcom, even their 3 egg mini rcoms are fantastic :) a great investment ;)

You're starting to convince me. I have just had an appalling hatch. I started with 5 dozen eggs
and have so far got 9 chicks out. Worst hatch ever with my RCom - I think with all the storms and wind
the last couple of weeks there must have been a major power outage on one of the two days I am not here (of course!)
as there were no blackouts on the five days I am here each week. I have a battery back-up, but have to be here to switch it over!

Yes that was one of the factors with choosing the rcom pro was the power going out all the time, mine beeps and flashes a power plug if the power has gone out, it doesn't tell you how long it has gone out for but it picks up where it left off when the power comes back on... And it runs on 65 watts, I heard you can get a 'battery thing' normally used for computers which kicks in as soon as the power goes out, I think it only runs a few hours though but it is something I am going to look into as well.
