Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Do we ever wonder what people would do if they ever had a life... Grrrr. Ok I am having a bad day. Just got a letter from food safe qld saying they were going to be prosecuted if I kept selling duck eggs (for eating) on gumtree. I sell hatching eggs. I had a guy the other day ring and ask if he could eat the duck eggs. I said sure if you want to spend $30 on eating eggs and laughed. Seems he though I was serious and reported me to food safe qld. Some days I really do wonder what people are thinking...

What a twit. The fact the guy who called was from food safe just makes it worse as it was obvious they were hatching eggs. It seems to me the government there is trying to get rid of ALL competition with the major egg farms since "Free-ranging" was changed there from a couple thousand chickens per hectare to 10,000.

hi all,

had 67 hatch from 100 on sunday , not bad being winter eggs, just a thought, with your hatched egg shell what do you do with them???

i put them in a container and crushed them up into fine small pieces ( quail egg shells) and feed them back to the adult quails.

anyone do this?
Congratulations Sam

I personally wouldn't give them the crushed shell from the hatched eggs, but that's because I worry about the bacteria that might be growing in the leftover yolk and membrane inside the shell.

I did that once as the old fella next door wanted me to hatch some eggs for him. He brought them over and they had been in the fridge for 2 weeks. I told him I would try but I doubt any will hatch. Well out of a dozen 5 little ones hatched I was totally blown away.

I can't believe the number of hens that they allow on small acreage for commercial producers. I have i think 2.7hectares? 6 acres and there is no way i could imagine that many hens per hectare.

How many chickens do you have, satay? If we buy the 5 acre block that we're wanting, I'll be getting about 20 chickens. I'll give my current 4 away. They're good layers but 4 eggs a day is not enough for our family.

hmm, didn't the commercial farms or whatever play a role in the import massacre? They really wanna beat down the little guy..

Large hens i probably have about 25 and then i have younger ones that are growing out too. I prob have maybe 8 bantie hens and ducks and turkeys as well. Edited cause i forgot the wellies so add another 9 hens to that.
