Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Thanks for the reply!
That's pretty much exactly what I give them in the mornings haha.. Cooked spaghetti, zucchini, carrot, broccoli and some corn! Never tried sardines? Are they good for chickens?
Also I have read a lot about not giving them raw eggs as it will make them break their own for the taste? Have you ever herd of this or had a problem :)

Sardines in olive oil are very good for healthy shiny feathers. High in omega 3, feeding eggs is also beneficial as they are high in protein. Just don't break an egg in front of them. Once they know what is inside then you might have problems with " egg breakers "
Scrambled eggs are a favourite around here. I add Greek yoghurt and stand back.

You can't freerange quails. If you let them out they will be gone. Male quail are can be aggressive to each other if there are too many of them and they are quite noisy in their call if you only have a tiny area.

Thank you!! Will pass on to my sister.

Oh and it is a small enclosed garden, fenced on all sides. Would that make a difference (no idea if they can fly) or you'd still just never get them to go home at night to lock up?

My brother and I had king quails a few years ago, thought they'd be like chickens lol let them out and never came back.
Sort of reminds you of that song about "Old Mother Hen went out one day" lol just none came back :)
Our next lot were always in a massive cage.
Sorry I haven't been on, adopted a 4 week old miniature poodle that is still up for night feeds :) not to mention work and uni :( oh and kids, dogs, chooks lol should start a zoo :)

They can fly enough to get over a 4 foot fence. they wont fly large distances at a time but the will fly.

Pinky I think I was wanting Pekins, but my friends getting me some show quality blue pekin eggs, so I'm good thanks. My langshan's have been sitting on their eggs for 16 days, I think I might have 3 araucana's and maybe a langshan x ara. It's there first time so I hope they get at least one chick, I got rid of the rooster, but I've got an isa brown that needs to go, anyone want a chicken dinner? I can't kill her, I can't kill anything but She hasn't laid an egg since I got her, and she's nasty. Any suggestions? Now I have about 20 pages to catch up on :)

Ah, its only about 4 foot too. Plan B then it seems, that was two fantail doves.

Speaking of flying one of my faveroles flew half way across my yard today! She was on a railing and took off and flew over a car and way down to the side of the yard. I have never seen one go so far, the kids thought it was hillarious but now Im wondering if I better get that roof on my run before she is up and over our 6 foot back fence.

Just wondering if anyone has any good 'treat' or 'Meal' ideAs for chickens?? I give porridge, spaghetti with vegetables, mixed veggies, dry oats ect .. Kinda new to all this and not sure what to make...

One thing they love (as long as you don't give too much of it) is oats soaked in warm water for a very short time. They devour it as fast as they can. They love scraps, seeds and bugs..but I doubt that would be something you would give to them as a full meal lol.
Give them meat, preferably on a bone as well. Oh, and they definetely love watermelon!

I don't make meals for my chickens, I give them leftovers or things I won't eat anymore (as long as they are safe).
