Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Sorry if the photo was offensive.to answer your question.. Although I'm no great photographer, I come from a family of photographers and I suppose it's just our instinct to document. I just wanted one last picture, to hold onto him somehow. It's really ridiculous how attached I was to him :( I'll see if I can edit out that picture.

Oh Pinky were all friends here, I don't think anyone would be offended. We each deal with our grief in our own way. By sharing the image of your beloved roo at peace you simply invited us in to your world. While it has saddened me, I also feel I know you a little better.
Don't be ashamed of being sentimental over a pet.

Condolences Pinky, I am very sorry for your loss.
I second what Fancy says. I think everyone here is sentimental and highly attached to our animals.
Just know that your roo is in a better place and I am sure that he is free ranging the skies watching over you and his flock. It is always sad losing a pet.
Is he the beautiful boy that has given you your lovely whites? If so at least you have some wonderful birds to remember him by.

Well said team, could not have said it better myself.

They lay an hour later each day.
FancyChookLady is right - they do go round the clock at 25 hours, and I have noticed occasionally longer than that. Not sure why .... very strange, but at least that way they get a day's rest ( if you care to figure it mathematically ). They need a bit of a rest in my opinion !!

When they first start laying ( in my experience ) there can be a couple or even a few days between eggs. They are newbies at the whole thing, and their little systems take a while to start producing almost every day. Don't worry - there will be another one shortly. If not, then it would be for some reason best known to her, or the beginning of an out of season moult. Frankly, I think chickens have many 'out of season' moults. Depends on the weather, the heat, or whatever sets them off into a moult. My girls moulted during the middle of a particularly hot but occasionally wet summer last year, (Victoria) and then 2 started up again during Autumn. One did it perfectly - stopped laying - Autumn, a heavy moult, and then started laying again beginning of Spring. The other is still struggling with a long slow moult, but has laid continually through winter ??. The 3rd hasn't bothered - she had a good moult in the summer and apparently that's ok for her ????????

Chooks can be very strange.

I am sure you will find another egg very shortly. Give her time to get into her 'stride'.

Cheers ........... AB

We had the day from hell here yesterday. I got stung on the leg by a wasp. I am allergic to wasps so have a big red swollen leg today. Just on dark we see flames down the back of our place. Lucky hubby was home early. The neighbour behind us some one had set fire to their place. Thankfully the rural firies were quick on the scene so it did not spread to any of our properties. Then at 9pm found a paralysis tick on thor. Freaked out and rang the vet as he was showing no signs of illness they told me to monitor him and bring him in if he showed signs. So far he is looking good no signs of illness. I have all the tick prevention stuff for my boys so shows even with that you need to still be vigilant with your checking. Was glad to have yesterday over.

Sam started to show signs of paralysis tick symptoms. I gave him one antihistamine tablet (human ones that have nothing else) and he was fine. I'd actually thought he was stung by a bee and the vet said we need to give him the tablet (he nearly died the first time) I was surprised it worked for the tick. Watch him close for three days. That's usually the danger period. And fancy is right. I washed all my animals in eucalyptus

He was my baby boy. I can't believe how much I loved him :'( :'( :'( :'(

Pinky I don't know what it is about roosters but we sure do love them. My very first rooster is getting very old now and I think wont last much longer I know it will break my heart too when he goes. I am glad I have 2 of your girls from your handsome rooster running around here.

Thanks Sam. I am keeping a very close eye on my thor but he seem to be having no effects so far. So any wool wash would be ok to wash them in? I have never heard of the antihistamine tablets for ticks but I have lots of them around here as I get very bad hayfever and sinus. Hubby spoke to the vet after I found the tick and she said it takes 3 to 4 days for a tick to become toxic on a dog. Thankfully I think he has only got it that day. I think I checked him like 50 times yesterday I was so scared there was going to be more. Lucky for me he is the kinda dog that loves pats so is happy to lay there while I go over his entire fur. Thanks everyone for your helpful advice again. The people on this thread are always so kind to offer advice to others no matter the topic. You gotta love being an Aussie :)
