My hens finished their course of antibiotics today. Out of the three of them one never had symptoms of illness, one was sick but seems as good as new now and the other still seems slow and has bubbly eyes. She also has blocked nostrils (the vet cleared them originally but now they have blocked up again). She HATES being handled. I tried wiping her eyes and nostrils with warm saline and gauze. The nostrils are still blocked with hard stuff... What to do? I was considering gently scratching it with a blunted toothpick but worry I will hurt her! I'm not sure how the vet managed to clear them as he took her out the back.

I wouldn't use a tooth pick. One sudden movement and you could do some serious damage. Wipe the excrament away with a soft tissue as best you can. What antibiotics have you got them on? You can buy chlorsig eye drops over the counter at the chemist.
Put 2-3 drops a day in the eyes. Feel free to PM me, if it all gets too much. :hugs

Your just up the road lol. Well not quite but fairly close lol

Sure am, working up here at the moment a few days each week. Back home to check the chickens this arvo, especially if these storms come through that they are talking about. :fl

More :fl that you get 12/12 again. Then you will have Pekins coming out your ears. :D What will you do with all those extras?

I think I am out of tea. I have one more place to look for tea bags or then it has to be coffee. I can't go past noon without caffeine. Especially. when I have all these posts to read in these interesting forums. Like to be bright eyed and bushy tailed!!!

I was given a ringneck a few years back by a neighbour. I wanted a yellow one to go with my others. I was all out of names this day and hubby suggested I call her freebie. I said no I am not calling my bird freebie. So in the end I went with phoebe lol.
Hubby named our dogs though Zeus and Thor(thor was joint effort) so he can come up with reasonable names most of the time .
haha, he comes up with great names, like Pearl Jam :)

Wow that's a drive and a half a day rexy. Suppose with the m1 not too bad though. I'll sell any extra I can part with .

Gosh Pinky what a hard decision to make..What hens you keep I guess I would choose purely on egg colour and laying if it were me. I have never had houdans or yokohamas so I am not sure what they are like as birds. I would keep the white rock cause it is something different, marans cause I just love mine but besides that I guess I am not much help. My two girls from you are growing into the most beautiful looking rocks. I bet Giraffe would be most proud of himself if he could see them.
Roosters I would go with one of the rocks if you are not sure on the marans roos. If I was closer I would buy the roo off you as I have 1 black marans from julies hatch . All my boys are wheaten.
Sorry don't think I was really any help at all there lol. Good to see you back though :)

Thanks Satay :) that was helpful. I suppose I'll pick the Yokohama over the houdan for white eggs because I already have her and she was the only one to hatch out of About $180 worth of eggs. Then Booker for brown, my ara for greenish, a marans for dark brown, then go guess just a matter of deciding extra rock or extra marans.. I think it will have to be both :p

This is T-Rex (named by my partner)
