48! Oh my gosh, that is just crazy.

Quote: Oh that's a good idea.
I have tried sprinklers with my flock before and they hate it. They don't go near the water at all apart from a few.
They like it when you wet dry land and then take the water away and they dust in the wet dirt.

Ours like wet dirt over being sprayed too. I got in the run and hose it down so I can make sure the feeders don't get wet then leave them to it until it all dries out.

I have tried frozen water bottles and stuff but our freezer is not big enough to keep up, so I just replace the water a few times a day on hot days. If it's really hot then I will put a sprinkler on low on the lawn next to the run so water runs in there but is not spraying everything and everyone.

The chook house has sprinklers set up on the roof that i run. I used the green house for the cochins and they other cages get a sprinkler moved from cage to cage all day..Unfortunately we have had heaps of days in the low 40's and the few in the high 40's think it got a bit much for them yesterday. No. rain does not help either. I used frozen water bottles to cool the brooder yestrday.

I not feeling all that better yet but i am hoping the antibiotics kick in soon :) We are supposed to only get to 36c today so if that is right it will be lovely :) It's 26c at the moment so i'll keep my fingers crossed :)

Wow, I go away for one day and come back to 5 pages of posts to catch up on.

Satay, I am so sorry to hear about your losses, very sad

Had a great day at Tangalooma and I am positive it was cooler there than at home. I was very happy to get home and find that my little girls have made it through the day. My son kept one eye on them and the mister seems to have done it's job. While they do not like the water they do like laying in the damp earth to keep cool.
They are normally very talkative but are oddly quiet today .. Hubby thinks the heat has probably knocked them around a bit. Never thought I would ever say "luckily it is only predicted to be 33C today" because that is still pretty warm but sure beats 41C! It is overcast today so while still warm, hopefully no burning Sun as well and cooler in the shade.

CONGRATULATIONS Luke!
