Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

It is funny, considering Alfie and the girls were raised on just wheat before I got them :( I think that's why they have an elaborate taste now lol They go crazy over molasses, even putting their heads in the trough when I feed it to the sheep lol

I fed mine a tray of sprouted barley and the only thing I have ever seen evoke that kind of response is their much anticipated sardines and pasta. Busy growing the next three trays. I will get some pics of them devouring it.

Some of what you hear is just urban myth, but there are various studies around that recommend feeding corn and sunflower seed in small amounts. There are pics on this site somewhere of a necropsy on chickens fed corn highlighting the fatty deposits around the vital organs. I figure everything in moderation. When they mark the corn cobs down at woollies , my chooks get a treat. Some people around here feed only wheat because that's what some old ' cow cocky ' told them. Mine turn their nose up to wheat and lupins.

Whats wrong with Sunflower seeds??
I thought it made their feathers nice and shiny!

I am talking about cracked ( dried ) corn though. Is it different?

Don't worry too much about it Lucas, so long as you keep everything in moderation they will thrive.
Sunflower seed is very high in oil ( fat ) and yes it gives good condition to the feathers. There are numerous products on the market designed to fatten up horses. They are simply milled sunflower seed.

I am yet to grow mine sprouts. Thinking of doing it in winter. Have room in the shed to put a few trays up. Wonder if I'll get raided for having growth lights haha

!!! hahaha!

Quote: Oh, so Sunflower seeds and corn are pretty much the same in the oil content.
I know Corn gives nice coloured yolks and Sun seeds gives nice feathers, but does it have any other benefits?
