Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Sorry, as in quality? Will you have SQ qual birds or are you crossing the SQ with your own line to improve your line?
Wow, those colours are going to be amazing when they come out.

I mean do you have Frizzles that meet the Frizzle standard?
Well, with any "Show Quality" some of the progeny will be SQ, others will be rubbish- it's a long process.
I have separate breeding lines - crossing the good ones together, and also have a good Lav roo over my own birds.
The frizzles will, I hope turn out to be "Frizzle Pekins".
They are just an experiment - I have no interest in producing SQ frizzles., but they are a very saleable chook.

So sorry about your losses, Satay. :hugs

Look at all your green grass. We are actually having to mow at the moment!!!!!!! Looks like it has forgotten how to rain again, though.

How did your Marans hatch go?

Nice pic, Lucas. Those big combs really lend themselves to cute photos.

Have a good easter, everyone.

good rexy. Forgot to post pics. Have more from phil due monday.

Quote: So now you are aiming for SQ birds? See I don't get how you can have 'Show qual' and then you can also have the standard. If you can show the standard, and the standard is the best chicken, then how can you improve on that? and in what way?

hahah yes, anything with extreme fluff, small size and feathered feet is very marketable.
I know you'd take anyone on Michael.lol. But just warning, be careful if you sell them as 'Frizzled Pekins'. On FB I just jokingly said I had a 'Frizzled Leghorn' and some people just went off at me at how it's not a 'real' Frizzle and I can't mislead people by saying it is.

Luke, I think we are getting bogged down with the meaning of words here. They are "Show quality" because their parents won shows, and therefore some of their progency MAY have the potential to win shows.
However, I have no interest in showing chooks, so their potential can only be realized if someone were to buy my birds or hatch my eggs and win shows with the resulting chickens.
Note I always use quotation marks in refering to "Show Quality" or " Backyard quality only"
I breed some chooks as close to the standard as possible because that makes them much more saleable items. The rest of the time I breed to please myself - whatever looks beauitiful or unusual.

Yes - the "Chicken Nazis" can be a pain, but you can also have a lot of fun stirring them up - a lot of them are the narrow viewed people obsessed with rules and regulations that you will find in any hobby group.
These people will slavishly follow the standard, but are unlikely to ever produce an outstanding specimen or originate a new breed.
That honour belongs to the mavericks and experimenters.

Too true Michael, I've heard the term over and over in the horse industry ' Grand Prix dressage potential ' , but only if the buyer is into dressage and ' Grand Prix show jumper ' but of course only if the buyer is a show jumper. I breed my chickens as close to ' standard. ' as possible but only 1% of my paying customers are even remotely interested in showing. You only need go onto some of the breed sites to encounter the ' chicken nazis ' . I often feel like saying ' scroll to the top of the page ' now read aloud ' backyard chickens '.
