Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

:gig ^^    Satay - do lots of green weeds make you as happy because that's what we mostly have.  Lol
Given all the attention the chickens get when they are out, they may well delay laying until after the school holidays so no hunt the egg for me.  On the other hand my son's first holiday distraction has been to make a temporary indoor nest box so we will see how that goes down.

:lau Beggars can't be choosers :D

Pigeons are all sitting on eggs at the moment I recon a nother week than I'll have squeeze kers

Watching the news I feel sorry for all you guys down south and your horrid winter weather at the moment. I'm freezing my butt off this morning. It was 1.5c at 6 am... Gosh I wish I could afford to move to Darwin for winter lol.. As I tell Sam regually.... I've told you I don't do winter right ?

Thanks Satay ... Funny thing is I don't really mind the cold - ( minus wind - that's the horrid part ) ... but could not live in Queensland or up north, as I dislike intensely the summer, even down here, which last season was really awful ..... and humid. I lose gallons of water through unstoppable perspiration ( which worries my husband ) ...but then he is a summer nut - and would love nothing more than to live up in Cairns or somewhere similar. Opposites attract ? You shocked me with the 1.5°C you had up there in the morning. I didn't think Queensland would EVER see a temperature like that. Well - that's today's lesson for me. As for grass - what's that ? It's been very barren here of late, but the grasses are beginning to peek through now ... and of course the chooks get it. Kind of glad I only have 2 free ranging chickens - my 3rd chicken, little Mindy Araucana simply does NOT like free ranging - gets very stressed about it all. So she happily stays in her run, and I hand feed her greens all finely chopped up with a pair of scissors. She scratches around in the fallen leaves to find insects, so she's happy enough.

Speaking of cold, my son Craig is currently 'wintering' in the Antarctic as an expeditioner down there. They had their mid-winter 'swim' ( all mad I think ) to celebrate the winter solstice, last Saturday. A very big rectangle hole is carved out of the sea ice with a massive chain saw, and one by one - in they go. Not permitted more than 1 minute, but most are out of there in 10 seconds.

They have ropes attached in case someone passes out or needs assistance, but nothing untoward happens, usually. Out and into warm water in a half cut shipping container, and later all into the steam bath that is prepared, with accompanying whisky or whatever their choice of drink. A truly fabulous dinner is served that night - 10 courses or so. They have to dress for the occasion. The chefs down there are the real thing. The menu would make TV's Masterchef or My Kitchen Rules, jealous !!

Have a warmer day ....

Cheers .. .. AB

B my hubby has been invited twice now to be an adviser on an Antarctic expedition. They use the buoyancy vest that he invented. They don't pay very well but he is seriously considering it. He's getting plenty of practice acclimatising , it's snowing all round the hills as I type.
Satay you'd hate all that pretty white stuff. :lau
