Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

I've just bought shipped eggs because I couldn't get what I wanted locally so people are willing to risk it :). You would really need to read up on packing though and having done Aus post I'd also looking at using a freight company where you can mark them fragile. Aus post make it clear they ignore fragile stickers.

Okay talk incubating for me for a sec folks. Wasn't sure last night when I gave them to her but just went and checked on penny and two of the eggs aren't fitting under her. One was still warm and the other cold. So I've taken them out so she doesn't keep having a different egg go cold all the time leaving her with 9.

Which leaves me with two eggs I hate to throw out. So I'm wondering if I can put together some sort of incubator to get them to 8 days when I might be able to use them to replace any no goes under her. I've got a large hermit crab tank so already have a hygrometer and heat lamps and all that in there so wondering if I can somehow use that to keep them going for a week?

Okay so temp in there is no problem to maintain as I just have to put higher up than the crabs but humidity is off the charts even up higher. Don't think 75% humidity is going to work lol. Sure I've got another heat lamp somewhere to set it up elsewhere. Now to try and find it.....

No reason why you couldn't try appps. You need to get your temp to 37.5c and humidity around 45%. I would put some paper towel or an old towel something like that under the eggs in the tank . If humidity is really high you may need more vents in the lid of the tank etc.

Got to much going on, which breeds should I sell and stop having;

My Yoko's? Which Ive only just got. I can charge a lot for them but not sure if anyone will buy them down my way. I have only got two of them. Really hard to contain to breeder pens. The new breeders pens Ive built for them will go to waste if I sell them. I really like them, not keen on parting.
or
My White Leghorns? Ive got a rooster, 3 hens and about 8 chicks growing up. I know I can sell them either as fertile eggs or live birds. Easy to look after.

I would concentrate on selling eggs for hatching or young chicks from your leghorns Luke. Leghorns being a great layer breed you should have no probs selling either online or even at your local markets.

Okay so it's stabilising and I'm around 42-48% humidity. I thought I had to be wayyyyyy lower so that may not be too big a problem. Getting the temp just right seems to be the tricky thing. I'm either too high or too low so just playing with the temps now. Hopefully I don't kill them while I'm working it out
400

Takes home made incubator to a whole new level doesn't it lol. Now I've got to work out how to turn them and make sure I'm not cooking the hermit crabs on the ground floor lol

I got a loaner incubator so my eggs have hope lol. It's a 48 egg jn8-48 he bought off eBay. Doesn't seem to have a very good review online but I believe he hatched about 25 chicks so probably better than my crab tank lol. So since the eggs are already in less than optimal conditions already do you think it's okay to just run for a couple of hours till up to temp rather than the 24 advised?
