Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Another question for you all.

There's a gentleman on a FB group who has made this statement ; "Persons would sell more poultry if they had realistic prices ( just an observation)".

What constitutes a realistic price in your opinion?

@satay - gorgeous babies

Another thing to consider is that chickens are not inexpensive birds to keep. Few people are lucky enough to have a spare shed complete with convenient pen. If someone is struggling to pay for a chicken, they will more than likely be unable to afford safe housing, adequate feed and any medical care that may come up. I love the innovative feeders, drinkers & so on that often work better than what is available in a shop, but it still adds up. If he wants to complain about prices he should have a look at what puppies & some kittens go for & they need far less equipment after sale.

And yes, gorgeous chicks Satay!

@Teila I just went through that with my hatch & the older ones got bigger & stronger without eating while waiting for the rest to hatch. I was quite concerned about my younger babies, but they are doing just fine. There is one tiny one that I really didn't think would make it because she looked like she should still be sleeping under mum. She stumbled around half asleep to keep up with the others the first day & is doing fine. She's easy to pick out because she's still obviously smaller than the others, but is such a fighter & obviously a favourite.

Fancy and cwrite thank you :)

Blondie accepted a drink from the small water container just before bed and the two littlies were jumping around quite happily. When Blondie reshuffled a bit I caught sight of an egg, still in one piece but with quite a big hole in it and lots of zipping.

I am hoping that tomorrow we may have some more good news and if she is still sticking to the nest, I will pop in some water and starter for them.

I am hoping though that the hatch is over and Blondie will come out for a well earned stretch

Now, making their BYC debut, Blondie presents her very first bubs:

They are soooo cute :). But I want to know why yours are running round and mine isn't allowed out? Every time it try's to poke it's little head out it gets a good rousing on and popped back out of sight by mum.

Oh the cuteness.

Lolz appps I am not sure.

I was watching them for a while this afternoon and the best way to describe it is that Blondie appears to be concentrating on the remaining eggs and even though she tried a couple of times to keep the littlies under control, she failed! Either that or they are just total little ratbags! lol.

Penny was concentrating on the eggs too, it was almost like the chick was this very badly behaved egg that would not stay under her like the rest of them. It would try and come out and get that little poke back in then she'd have to check all the other eggs. I've taken the others out now so hopefully that gives her the hint and she starts treating it like a chick!

These littlies are probably the feistiest little ones I have had hatch here. At just over one day old they are already trying to hang off mum's wattles and peck her in the eye. Previous bubbies have at least waited a couple of days before attacking mum! lol

Again, maybe it is because she is stuck on the nest and easy prey!
