Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Fancy sorry to hear you lost a little one; that is sad :(

Ash they are so cute!

Just wondering what is the earliest anyone has had a broody start laying again?  Tina’s bubs are only four and half weeks old and she laid an egg today.  It is definitely hers as she is still separated with the two bubbies and I doubt very much that they laid it! Lol

She is still ‘mothering’ them to a degree but has drawn the line as sharing her mealworms now ;)

5-6 weeks of age is when momma usually ' pulls the pin ' here. Just hope she doesn't go straight into another broody cycle.

My Wellies started back maybe 3 weeks after they stopped mothering their broods? Mind you though, they were with them for longer than usual as it was coming into winter when they were raising their chicks.

So they would have been a lot older than 4.5 weeks I'm guessing?

I just thought it was strange, that seems real early to be laying again.

Cilla is at least 2 months from hatch date til she lays again and Tina's bubs are not even 5 weeks old yet.

Anyone else experienced a return to laying this early?

Knowing my luck, she will lay 10 eggs and go broody again; like last time!

Yes they were. I think they were about 8 weeks-ish. They didn't want to cut the cord haha.
Lucky for me my Wellies haven't been broody since and are laying up a storm.
Luck - onni
Lucky - onnekas, hyväonninen

Some other words might apply as well, depending on the context
Thanks for that Vehve - I'm thinking of calling the little battler Onni

K spot, haha my name is Felix, so I like that name. Onni is usually a boys name though.
Eh - I don't mind

I know there are some usual girl's names like Kelly, Shannon and Tracy that have been used on boys.
I don't know, it's a cute name and so is she

Oh, my name is Kahlia; yes I know it's unusual haha

- that's me & chocolate.

Cute chicks Ash. I hope you do start posting them. I'm smitten with Araucana's. Gotta think long term.

K Spot, I was just thinking of covering the red, although spray bandages sound good they are a bit fancier than what I had in mind. I thought chook antiseptic sprays are coloured so that by covering the red of the injury the other chooks are not tempted to peck. She sound like she is coming along nicely. We lost one chick of our batch from the hatchery in a couple of days, but so far this lot seem much hardier. I'm putting it down to being raised by mum.

Sorry about the chick that got lost Fancy.
