Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

My babies are all here!! 11 healthy ones, 1 egg not fertile, 1 early quitter (was the size of a pea) and unfortunately a lost baby at hatching time (he pipped through blood vessel and even with help got too tuckered out to go on). Not bad for both my broody and I not having a clue about what we were doing. She's such a good Mumma, has taught them to scratch and gave them a worm, taught them how to dust bathe and how to groom. :') Let's them climb all over and under her and only got annoyed at one once cause it pulled out one of her tuft feathers. There are 5 Aras, I think they're going to be 2 blacks, 1 lavender, 1 white and 1 blue. 6 FW Marans, 3 are yellow as expected but I'm not sure what the gingery ones are.
Gratz on your new babies. :weee

Your marans on the left look a little dark. Perhaps ask the person who you got the eggs off to make sure they could not of accidently be crossed with something else. Be interesting to see how they feather in.

Been a busy week, huon show this weekend , our eldest daughter and I are stewarding in the hack ring our youngest is competing on 3 horses ,our pony ' Rosie ' is in the animal nursery and we are also sponsors . Phew and I haven't changed out of my garden clothes all week. Next Wednesday is our open garden, today I've been shooing off the sea eagle . Momma duck is down to just 6 ducklings and every morning they run up to me and walk all over my feet looking for feed. The eagles chicks hatched yesterday and I think he has promised the mrs duck for dinner. Today I lost one of my blrw , it was choked by one of its silkie mommas feathers. Nothing I could do.

Yeah, I was thinking that. Not sure what they're going to look like and a bit concerned that I won't be able to sex them when their feathers grow in. I'll text her and ask cause I didn't actually see the Maran pen as it was at a different property. Not too concerned though. Got 16 eggs (I took 2 away) for $25 so pretty cheap. They're all so cute though!! :D :D Except one of the yellow Marans, I'm pretty sure it's a boy cause it annoys and pecks at it's siblings. :p

Thanks!! I'm thrilled with them. I've never held a baby chicken before now. :) My Mum is attached to the teeny black Ara so I'm praying it's a girl.
They're hard work even with a Mumma, they decided to scratch everywhere today so food, sawdust, hay and dirt went into their water bowl. Sigh. And they refuse to learn how to drink from the nipple waterer which would be so much better.

Ginger darker chicks look a bit like Rhode Island Red chicks

They do a little but they have feathers on their feet plus little stripes. When googling maran chicks just then I came across the following post which is exactly what they look like. Little bit of striping and a little eyeliner happening.

This is what the little ginger ones look like from all angles. This is just the first one I grabbed. :) Photos taken with flash.

I don't think you Ozzies need to be afraid of the Russians, we've been living next to them for ages, and there hasn't been a war in almost 70 years! They do like to "accidentally" slip into our airspace from time to time though...

I agree Vehve. The only thing we need to worry about is the heat. The forecast for the next three days in Brisbane is 32C, 35C & 38C. That's 89.6F, 95F & 100.4F! I hope the aircon at the convention centre works well. Heat tends to make people grumpy. ; ) My trips outdoors will be limited to quick sprints to revive chooks.

I went to an agri expo in the weekend, on Sunday morning they had a blackout, loads of cows, llamas, alpackas, chickens pigs and whatnots inside, apparently they started to get a bit of ammonia in the air. Luckily they got power back after a few hours.
